Q about h22 and h23 tranny

my friend bought an h22 engine but he wants to use his tranny that came on the h23a engine...are the gears the same...will it bolt up to the h22 engine....also he needs a clutch so he gets one to go w/ the h23 tranny right.....he said they wanted to know what engine?

Edit: Get out of my forum 5th gen boy!!! I have power here

yes the h23 tranny will bolt right up to h22 motor. BUT the h22 has shorter gears.

And yes if he needs a new clutch he has to order one for the h23...actually i think its the same for either tranny.

the clutches are the same for h22 and the h23. same goes with the flywheels.

im curious as to why longer gears would hurt a h22 so bad also? seems like h23 tranny would benefit the h22?

shorter gears means faster shifting, which allows you to stay in vtec easier. But with the h23 the torque is all down low..where you wanna be with an h23 hence the longer gears.

ope this clears it up for you

so how is his h23 tranny gonna work on his h22 motor.....seems to me what i am reading..it gives lower power which i think is needed on a h22 so it will be better cuz he will have a better low end + vtec am i right in thinking this....sorry if i seem like a dumbass but i am hahaahahahaha

the h22 makes its power higher in the rpm band, hence the short gears on the tranny and high rev limiter, the h23 makes its power lower, so longer gears and lower rev limitier.the h22 benifites from a tranny that can keep it above 5200rpms to stay in vtec. the h23 will work, but if he can get ahold of a h22 tranny, i'd recomend it.

i only drop to right at 5000rpm shifting at a little over 6000 in my 92 si so i dont think it will be a problem to stay in vtec without the vtec tranny.

yup your a dumbass..JK

But really you got it all wrong... simply put
h23 tranny revs slower..helping you stay low in the rpm range where your power is.

h22 tranny spins faster keeping you high in the rpms to stay in vtec.

h23tranny on h22 means your engine has to work harder to spin the gears faster to keep you in vtec range..and making your engine work harder is a

well I'm currently using a h23a1 tranny on my JDM h22a. I would show you the gear ratios for both trannys but I let my friend borrow my helms. =) Anyways, the VTEC tranny gearing is almost identical to the SI tranny. The SI tranny is just a little bit longer. And yes the clutch off the h23 motor will fit on the h22 motor. I used my old flywheel and clutch off of my h23. I was broke after buying my motor. =*( that's why I re-used my h23 clutch and flywheel. The tranny off of the h23a will be a direct fit on the h22a motor. Here's the deal with the shifting. When I shift at 7400rpm, it drops to about 5000-5100rpm. When I shift around 7600-7800rpm, it drops right on top of VTEC which is 5200rpm. Hope this helps.

is your car as fast as it would be w/ a h22a tranny....like does your gears "wind up" as fast w/ the h23. if you understand what i am saying.......like does it take longer for your car to go up the rpm band?
