Pushing in the clutch is VERY stiff. What could be wrong??

Hey all. My clutch is VERY stiff. I bought the car used and the previous owner said that it may need changine. Thing is, when I drive it the clutch feels fine. It doesn't slip at all nor does it feel weak when engagine. But whenever I push in the clutch the pedal is very difficult. To the point where my ankle gets sore.
Any ideas???

actually some aftermarket clutch packages enable you to shift easier and of course with a lighter flywheel you accel. faster.....sure its not hp...but still can help...I noticed the difference when i got mine....as for the stiff pedal...yeh it could be aftermarket....but could also be a fluid problem...some places have a free tranny inspection so you should take it there and ask if there is one in your town...anywayz later

I think you may have a dual diaphragm pressure plate. Thats why you have a stiffer than stock pedal feel. These pressure plates are usually for engines with higher horse power (like 300 and up).
I had a shop sell me one once (before I knew any better), It was so stiff, two months later it Fuked up my tranny. Funny thing was the shop just happen to have a H22 tranny laying around.

Mine is also very stiff, when I bought the car it already had a few modifications so I'm thinking it has aftermarket clutch. It doesn't seem like it grabs all that much better and it sqeeks right about when it grabs.

Why did your tranny get messed up? It doesn't make sense that a clutch would do that unless it wasn't installed properly.
