Push button start

Is it possible (anyone done this) to just have the button start without the key? I was thinking of having just the button and a hidden kill switch. Possible?

I don't understand why having an autostarter helps me here. Maybe I'm being unclear. What I would like to achieve is to have a push button start like the S2000's do but instead of putting in the key first I would just like to push the button to start the car.
Has anyone done this? I know I was asking if it was possible but I am not an eletrical man so doing this on my own is just not happening. I need instructions.

Thanks guys

autostart will start your car only, you still need the key to drive it. with the push button start, i wouldn't say its impossible, but i think you would need to somehow get rid of your key igntion and hard wire the switch to the starter. Why would u want to do that tho? w/out a key anyone could just start ur car making it a easy target to steal.

A hidden kill switch would protect the car. I haven't really gone though all the details in my head but..... It sounds like no one has done this. I guess I'll just go with the key and button. Would be kinda cool to have the button though.... but.....

ok so you want to have a kill switch to turn the car ON and then press a button to start it? Yea its no problem. First i am assuming its a 4th gen. You are going to need 5 30amp relays.

Then you take all the wires accept for the wht/blk running off the keyswitch and splice #30 to the color and 87a to white for each relay. Then for wht/blk you need 2 relays, both chained together. First one #30 goes to wht/blk and 87a goes to #30 of the 2nd relay. the 2nd relay #30 goes to 87a of the first relay and #87a goes to white. Now the first relay is wired to your push button start and the 2nd relay is wired like this: 85 to the blk/yel (after the relay) and 86 ground to the chassis. This cuts the power to the starter when the ign switch is off so you don't bump the switch and accidently turn the car over.

If you need a diagram i can draw you one.

instead of using a kill swith I would use one of those coded circuit board keys, once you plug that in then you push the start button, gives you some added security, however if your going to plug in the chip you might as well just use your key, besides your going to need the key anyways to unlock the steering wheel- bet you didnt think of that did you, lol.

Caz your absolutely right. I recently thought of the mechnical portion of the setup and I will need the key to unlock the steering. I guess I'll have to use a key... No big deal though.

i think it'd be much cooler if you pulled a "Transporter" and installed a coded ignition system...that's what i want anyway, it's even better than a key imho

You dont have to use a key.... you can easily just take the ignition out complety and not have to worry about the key at all.... very easy to do if you have a drill to drill out the shear bolts...... I just replaced mine the other day so I happen to have one handy to take pix of. If you look at mine you can see the pin that locks the wheel and the trouble that a thief will go through to attempt to steal a car. I strongly suggest that you DO NOT do what you are trying to do if you remove the ignition. anyone with any electrical and automotive knowledge can get a car running with about 3 feet of wire and a screwdriver in less than 5 min (assuming its not a car that requires a chip in the key), the only problem is the ignition lock that will not allow them to turn the wheel. So if you do what your wanting to do then you are asking someone to steal your car. Thats just my opinion though.....
