go to hondahookup.com register/login and download the pdf manual. are you sure it's the head gasket and not the valve cover gasket?

im almost sure that it is the valve cover seal or the valve stem seals, but the kit i bought came with ever gasket and seal on the h23 so i figured i should just do the whole thing while i have it open

Changing the valve cover is just a few bolts and doesn't actually "open" everything up. Pulling the head is a different story, then you have to mess with timing, torquing the studs, probably buying new head studs, etc..
VC gasket change = few mins
HG change = few hours, probably a couple of days if you have never done anything like that before. Im just sayin.

But if you have time and just want to learn then go for it lol, just as stated above..download the Helms, it will tell you everything you need to know.

I would not recommend pulling the head just for the sake of doing it. return the seals (if you can) and buy the valve cover gasket set. I got one from advance auto for the k24 accord for $30 and it works just as good as the honda stuff.

just my recommendation though.

Valve Cover Gasket Set. This gasket set includes 1 #12341-PT2-000 valve cover gasket, 4 #12342-PT2-000 spark plug tube seals, and 5 #90441-PT0-000 sealing washers.

is this what i need?

that looks correct. Get some hondabond or gray rtv sealant from your local auto parts store. (it's not necessary, but recommended in the manual)

just make sure you can return your other seals before you go buy some more

also, check and make sure the ignition coil is plugged into the distributor

that's about the only thing it could be considering what's required when removing the valve cover. pcv valve/hose in place?

Did the engine run before you changed the gaskets?
