PROS and CONS to keeping stock and getting STAGE 2 cams...

Just wanted to have a separate thread of what you techies who know cams about the pros and cons of having cams (either stage 1 or 2) on an engine. I have about 90k on my engine now and thinking of some Crower cams (probably stage 2 w/retainers and springs). So what u guys think??

Pros:
- cams kick ass
- cams make power
- crower cams are good

Cons:
- decreased fuel mileage from performance
- also you are an H23 so your idle quality will be reduced based on the cam as you're not like vtec which has an 2 idle lobes and a VTEC lobe
- research the specs carefully, you don't want a cam that makes power at 7500rpms, as an H23 should never go there
- money
- money spent on tuning, need at least an S-AFC

so picking up the cams, you will also need to get a safc so it can be tuned properly. Will idle suck really bad with the new cams?

depends on which cams you get, the higher the top end gains you want the sh*ttier idle will be. you will definitely have to get the cams dyno tuned to get the most available hp

I had an H23 with cams and it was fine at idle. I did not have an s-afc either and still got considierable gains. But i would recomend it just to get the full potential out of the cams.
