i jus got a 1992 prelude si automatic totally stock and i dont no wtf all the h22 an f22 and what means and or how to find out what kind i have i wanna order a water pump for my car but im nervous ill get the wrong one anyone no how ot tell which engine i have
Most likely you have an H23A1, since you mentioned that you have Si lude.
All USDM Si models came with H23 from the factory.
There might be a small possibility that the previous owner swapped the motor, but there is just a small percent chance of that. Post some pics of the engine, we can tell you exactly what you have.
aight ill post some pics and i dont think my aunt replaced the engine lol thats were i got it from it was in her driveway for mad long so i took it off her hands and i jus spent 1100 on the hard cooling pipe and a radiator replacement and they said it was done i went there picked it up and drove it home not a single ounce of heat came out it was ice cold i was pissed the mechanic made a note on my bill that the water pump blades were deteriorating but it worked before i brought it in so ima c if i cant do it myself i dont have another 500 for the labor on that i jus ordered a helms manual today so when it comes in if its easy ill do it if not ill have them do it i really dont understand these engines im used to havin a bmw lol way diff and so much easier
If you're going to replace the water pump... might as well replace the timing belt and balancer belt
Do you feel any resistance when you move the temp control lever to heat? The rod that opens the valve may have come out of place. Could have happened while at the mechanic if they set it to heat when they were bleeding the air out of the cooling system.
Off topic... but $1,100 to replace the radiator and that leaking pipe in your other thread? You got ripped off. Hard. I wonder how the mechanic was able to tell that the blades were "deteriorating" if he didn't have to remove the pump - assuming that pipe could indeed be replaced without doing so.
i dont no how he could tell the hard pipe was from the water pump to the thermostat i had another thread about it cuz i didnt no what it was and i fig i got ripped off which is y i wanna do this myself jus wanna make sure i get all the right parts from now on and i jus dont no nething bout the engines in hondas and i here about the h22 and stuff an i dont no how to tell and no there isnt any resistance it jus blows ice cold air
o ya and when i talked to the mechanic he said the rmps will kinda bounce a lil when its in park when the pump needs to b replaced sure enough it did that when i pulled in my driveway lol
^because that's what h23's look like. All of the engines available have different valve covers.
Also it says H23 on the engine stamp area. If you are wondering where that is, look at the engine, find the exhaust manifold and look left. But with how dirty that engine bay is...probably won't see it.
