Project: JDM Lude, the ongoing saga (Write-Ups and Journal w/ Pics)
Incase you didn't see, this is what i bought:
Ok here is my one, ongoing thread about my JDM Project car.I have done some, but not a whole lot. So i'll start now. Please feel free to comment along the way, ask questions, anything. There will be links at the bottom of this post with links to write-ups and journal entries. So without further a-do. Here we go!
This thread starts off with where i am currenlty at. I already have the sunroof taken out because there was a bubble of rust that was on it. So i have it taken out and ground down and primered already. and i started to tape some of the windows because i am spraying Filler-Primer on the areas i fix. I would write a how to on sunroof removal, but its been covered a million times. So on to other things. Here are 2 pics to start this thread off.
Well today didn't start off too bad. I worked on another car today so i didn't get much done today. So i took to liberty of an easy task of getting rid of a small ding in my front driver's side fender. Sorry i don't have any pics, it was a little late when i started this thread, but i'll post when i finsih the fender. I ground it down with my 4" grinder and sanded it out and used my filler primer which was a mistake because now i am using three or four layers of this filler primer caues its thin instead of starting right off with bondo. bleh oh well. lesson learned. Its drying right now on its 2nd coat. Well i think i will have some more for you tomorrow so stay tuned.
If you are not filling some huge dent do not use the thick polyester filler, it's unnecessary, go get your self a product called evercoat putty, I believe the product number is 416. Call a automotive paint store and ask them for that.
This product is for filling small dings, pin holes and what not, it's alot thinner than the regular filler(bondo) you will be there forever trying to fill dents with filler primer.
With this putty you do not need to grind the paint to metal, just scuff it with 80 grit, and apply the putty. It's also alot easier to sand than the filler.
Just a tip from a professional autobody tech!

We today my baby cousin was baptised so i was with family for most of the day, but i at least got my hour of work in that i promised my car everyday. So today's episode i started to work on the rear driver's quarter behind the back wheel.
As you can see, there is a wrinkle right where the bumper meets the panel and it caused the fender to implode a little. This is where i start my work today.
So the first thing i had to do was drill holes and use my dent puller to get that panel back in the ball park so I could finish it off. This is quite nerve wrecking as you are drilling holes in your car and pounding on the puller to get the panel to come out. Ugh.
As you can see i have the wrink pulled out for the most part and it poped most of the panel out too. Then i ground it down and bondo-ed it. It seems I am going to need more then one coat of bondo, but i have it very close to home. So one more layer should do it.
There is the first layer of bondo on and sanded. This is where i ended my night cause i am tired.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's episode. I am going to hopefully put in a days work on it and see how far i get.
a think a lot of people are VERY interested in this thread...there just isnt anything to really say about it. Ya know. I've been watching the thread when you post.

keep in mind when using bondo, if you have a deeper area to fill, use a fiberglass filler. The stuff the has fiberglass mixed into it. It will hold together alot better and keep from cracking out.
btw, I am on the final phases of repairing and repainting my 4th gen so if you have any questions pm me or hit me up on aim.

Ok my first real full day of work. I made some good progress today. First on the list was to finsh that bondo job.
Well i was unsatisifed with how the curves came out since the panel was dented in some. So i decided to do a much larger area so i could give it a smoother, flowing look. Here is the finished product.
Ok now with that done and out of the way i decided to take off the bumpers because one, they have a little damage on them and two, to make room for my body kit that is going to go on. I also removed my JDM headlights for safe keeping too.
Off the factory bumper i took the stock JDM lip and put it on my blue car so i can get a little more money out of it when the time comes. Sorry i didn't take a pic of that yet.
So then i decided "well since i have the bumper off, the intake resonator should go too." Ok so here i am taking the resonator off. Oh and btw i did put the bumper support back on cause i figure i would bend it or something.
After all that i swapped the AEM short ram that came on the JDM car with the CAI on my blue car, stripped all the panels out of my trunk and took the tails off, that pretty much ended my day. So i put a good 6 hours in today. Now to order up that front bumper...I have decided that i want to go with the VIS Xtreme front bumper.
Side Notes:
You know those 4 piece bumper lights? Well i never knew that the lights on the sides on JDM cars do not have bulbs in them. I was kinda surprised.
CAIs go in VERY easy on JDM cause i don't have to fight the engine harness by the intake.
Questions:
What kind of bulbs are in JDM one piece headlights?
Also, are you sure you want the VIS front bumper? Well this may be my personal opinion, but since the car is straight JDM, I would build the car up JUST like that. (JDM styling)
If you ever decide to show the lude, and you keep it JDM you can place very well.
