Problems with my tach ....

Quick Stats - 93 SI with JDM H22a swap that just had tbelt, waterpump, belts and every gasket and seal imagineable done to it.

Today driving home from work, my swapped el gauges starting acting screwy. They have worked great for a year so I dunno..

Anyways, it would register idle at like 2100ish rpm. I know my car, what it sounds like, how much it shakes at certain rpms etc, so it has to be the gage being faulty. Or whatever device controls it.

The rpm would hop around kinda if im shifting up or air braking it, it kinda randomly goes up and down a little... So I think it raised the scale up about 1400rpm.... I tried vtec to see when it crossed and i was getting into vtec at 7kish....

Anyone have any ideas?

Blamo's did the same thing, except his is low by 1400rpm or so. I think it's just the gauges going bad.

See I've heard other things on other boards. Rotor could be backing out, bad ground, bad engine grounds. I have a regular gauge I can test it out with to see if it the gauge thats bad or the signal...

Wierd thing is, it worked flawlessy on the drive to work this morning...

I have had very sporadic, intermittent (and, luckily, rare) problems with my speedometer gauge. The problems usually seem to crop up when the temperature is particularly low. At any rate, the problem is similar to yours - the needle will "freeze" at a certain point, then act unpredictably from there. I guess the only reason I'm bringing this up is - were you noticing the problem in cold weather?

Actually no. Honestly it seems to only do it in HOT weather. I'll copy some stuff I posted on another forum...

preludeman, funny you mention that. I disconnected, sanded, and rewrapped the tranny ground. Its way better now then it has ever been. I'll have to double check connectivity though make sure its not loose or something. I also upgraded the valve cover ground to a nice new 4gauge.

I have some more data to add to this though.. Yesterday when the el gauges were screwing up, my amp/carpc/lcd wasn't getting any power at all. I didn't touch it all at since I drove it last. Start her up this morning and everything worked fine. so wierd. Amp gets its power from the battery but turns on from a carnetix psu ( powers laptop, lcd, turns on amp) that gets its power from the ignition under the dash.

Another thing, since I did my el gauges, both turn signals on the gauge blink when I turn it to right or left. It turns out its the extra plug on my dash harness that need to be cut and grounded. I have yet to do it I have just been rocking having both blink, I mean, it works outside... Maybe that is starting to
act up now..

I dunno thought I'd drop some more info...
