problems with my 92 prelude si.. any ideas??

well... i have a 1992 honda prelude si.... the car cranks perfectly and runs with ease.. no idling problem or anything... when i drive it, it back fires a little and wont accelerate like it should... it wont go over 50 mph in 5th gear and bein floored.... its my project for a while until i can get this figured out... i have replaced the timing belt and got timing fixed on it... i have checked to make sure all the plugs and wires are not crossed. and i changed the spark plugs... and ideas??? please help me if you know what i can do to fix this problem im having... i love this car and would really like to get it runnin

I had a problem like that with a 1990 Jeep Wrangler I had. It was a clogged cat actually. It never threw a code either.

You can't just clean it, you'll have to remove it and hollow it out, get a new one or just buy a test pipe.

I'd 1st disconnect it and see if that fixes the problem. My Jeep I disconnected the header at the block and it ran a million times better. Then got a new cat. and replaced it. Also had to replace the plugs as they were toasted from the exhaust being backed up.
