Problem starting 92 Si

Ok my brother has a 92 Si and his car suddenly started losing power while he was on the road. He pulled over and his car shut off. He couldn't get it started again and we had to tow it back home. I thought probably it was an ignition problem so i checked the plugs and wires and they were fine. I changed the distributor cap and the rotor, and tried a different coil but it still doesn't start. I don't think it's the starter because the car still cranks and the timing belt is ok. So what else is there...maybe the distributor? Or maybe a totally different problem i haven't thought of. Any help would be appreciated.

does this happen...

every so often, and if you wait a little while (10+ minutes) it cranks rtight up like nothing happened.. but if you dont wait, it either 1) starts up then just drops to 0rpm dead.. 2) just doesnt start?

mines done this maybe 5 times in the past 3 months.. one time in a huge intersection.. most of the other times when i pull into 711 or what not.
Guys think thats a fuelpump? I notice it boggy a little.. but it feels more like clutch slipping.. but Im probably wrong?

Hot starts is . . .

Usually the main fuel relay. It's like $35-40. I had the same problems, go into get gas and then it won't start until it cools more.

It's either the whole fuel pump or just the relay. The only way to test the relay is to take it off the top of the fuel pump put a tester in it and try to start it up. If it doesn't give you power or alot of power then it's your relay. Or if it starts giving you power then shuts off for no reason while your cranking your motor then it's the relay. However if that's fine then it's your fuel pump.

Peace

Thanks for all the replys. I'll look into the fuel pump idea and see how it goes.

Before you go monkeying around with the fuel system trying checking out the ignition switch. SAME exact thing happened to me. Car stalled out while driving and when I pulled over and tried to restart the engine would crank but not catch. Everything else worked and you could hear the fuel pump still running so I knew that wasn't it. Took it to my Honda guy and he replaced the switch and I haven't had a problem since. Friend of mine has a CIvic and had the same problem and it was also the ignition switch.
