Ive been having this same problem for about a month. it only did it when i came to a complete stop but now it seems to do it sometimes when i have the clutch pressed in and im just crusing. anyways i would like to hear some more info on this problem because its not fun at all!
I guess mine does that SLIGHTLY, but I also have no o2 sensor installed and havent reset the ECU in a while. A lot of people have this problem after going to a JDM H22.
oh really?? i guess i have the worst luck...my car now is broken down on the road waiting to be towed...i wish i had post a topic like this( does anyone have any problem after swap h23 to JDM h22) before i bought that jdm engine.. anyone knows how to fix this problem..there must be a way to fix it...help me!!!!
did you put in your coolant exactly as the helms tells you? you might have a ton of air bubbles causing the surge. I would either bleed out the air, or completely drain the coolant and try again.
I had that same exact problem when I put my head back on my h23, I tried letting the air bubbles out and it still happened. After that I drained the coolant and did it over and it doesnt do that anymore. good luck

Would it do this if my radiator has leaks in it? ive removed the radiator cap and it didnt help so the only other thing i can think of is order a new radiator.
i just patched up my radiator with some glue stuff, and it happens anytime im in idle, so either cruising or when the clutch is pressed all the way in.

Seee.. that's why you gotta stick with H23A1... don't fix it if it ain't broke! NOt meaning to be that kinda person.... but i'mma stick with my torquey h23a1
I had the same problem, and it turned out to be trapped air in the cooling system. Luckily, all I had to do was pop the rad. cap and let it sit a few minutes... and the problem was gone.
update? anyone find any other causes besides just the radiator and fluid?

i am pretty sure is the vacuum hose of your Pressure Regulator wasn't hooked up..
coz it happened to me once i tried to install my nitrous, ZEX kit, and I forgot to hook up that fuel pressure regulator and it did that to me.. very embarassing...
