problem with friends car

ok we went out playing tonight and when we pulled up to where we were going his car started sounding hollow like the exhaust had broke. Didn't think anything of it so he raced me when he shifted into fourth (or what he thought was fourth) it went to reverse and the rpms went through the roof and the car idled down and died. It started back up and runs but when he pushes in the clutch its wanting to drop to 100-300k rpm and then back up to 900rpm and it also is rocking the car pretty heavily. Any ideas on what happened?

sounds like some bent valves. Do a compression test.

if you bent the valves ur just better off buying a newer and better engine. Labor alone on valves is approx $1,000.
