My brother has a 92 Si and he's having problems with the climate control. The heat and the A/C work fine, but he can't choose where the air is gonna blow. It seems as though it's stuck on blowing air towards the foot area, no matter what button you press. It's a real problem when you need to defrost the front windshield cause no air will blow there. The buttons light up when you press them, just that it doesn't change the direction of the air. Any advice on a fix would be appreciated.
mine did the same (92 si). i thought i was theonly one. i just swapped out the whole heater control unit with one from a 94 i picked up at a junkyard. no probs since!
Originally posted by G_Loc my 93 Si does that too sometimes... i just push all the buttons and eventually the vents become unstuck or something and it blows the right way
Tried to push all the buttons a couple of times too and it does end up changing eventually. I'm wondering if its just some bad servos or something that control the direction of the air. I'm probably gonna take apart the dash and see how it actually changes the air direction. I don't really want to spend money on a new control unit.
I also just replied to another post where my climate control buttons all flicker , and the A/C button wont come on until I hit the dash or rattle the climate conrol
anyways, I hope when I take it apart to re-solder that the stupid air flow buttons not responding will be fixed as well. Seems there is a few of us with this same problem but noone has ever fixed without replacing ?
The resoldering will fix it. The problem doesn't lay in the motor, it's in the electrical part of the control unit. It's the same problem as the AC malfunction, just a different solder come loose, or off. If you guys hit the dash a lot, sometimes it'll kick in(moving the loose connections). You guys just have to open it up and resolder the connections inside the unit.
i have this problem too cept no climate control. but newho... i have to push the buttons but most of the time it doesnt switch, anyone have any big ideas?

ok after about 45 minutes to an hour i finally managed to get the climate control out hahahaha and after 20 more minutes i got the circuit board out, it appears to be fine and no loose joints i see off hand, the closest problem is on all the solder points by the LEDs i think they are somewhat brownish
could the problem be the A/C switch thing itself, the thing that clicks when pushed in?
Alright, I spent a long time with the circuit board by itself plugged in the car while the engine was running so I can get a full on test.
I think I have narrowed it down, either the Green connector thing with the wires is the problem or the part on the circuit board the green connector plugs into. Its hard to tell but when i wiggle the board around by itself everything turns on and off , ..etc..but if I wiggle it around while holding down the green connector with wires securely, all the lights stay on and A/C
ya... I had this problem and actucally went t a junkyard for a new green clip.. No problems since.. Those wiggle their way out of there and cause bad connections.... If you adjust the green clip all should be good... And here I was thinkgin I was the only idiot hitting my CC when the A/C didnt respond just so it woudl come on!

Hey, the "Technical Tap" has been an accepted form of repair since engineering was started. The first television broadcast in color was of the Queen in a car. Just before the car came into view the camera stopped working. The cameraman utilized this manuver (kicked it) and the camera came back on
