Probably the most ****ed up **** that can happen to a lude.

So I was getting my car tuned. Because after the h22a1 (blown rod bearing) to h22a4 the car seems to be misfiring. In any case... The tuners said. Your driver side shocks feel blown... I was thinking WTF? Blown Koni yellows?! So I looked and this is what I found:

My whole shock tower mount on the driver side is unraveling. I suspect it's because I keep bottoming out. =( Don't worry its fixable! I should get her back this weekend. When i get my benson block. Im going to stitch weld both tower mounts. LOL.

A stitch weld may not be what you want. Weld the entire seems if you are going to stiffen things up. It will be stronger, and if you weld well, look cleaner. I know this is a common fix in S13 Nissan's for a similar problem.

Shock tower MOUNT. The shock is completely intact.

It is hard to see and explain, but if you look at where the front strut bar is mounted you'll see what looks to be welds around the 'mound'. (think around the bulging thing). It is in fact a sealer than has some spot welds under neat.

The spot welds unraveled and yeah I almost killed myself.

Does that look like the spot welds splitting? wow.. I've never seen/heard of that before.

is there any way of reenforcing those welds to prevent the splitting?

It is only spot welded you can see the dimples along the mount. Those are the spots that it's been welded to. In rally cars every seam is stitch welded for reinforcement. I'm hoping that when I get my built block I can have someone stitch weld it for me so I wont have to worry about it happening again.

I am far to lazy to walk 30 feet and look at my car but I think there is a sealer on that seam. If you want to prevent it, and there is sealer there, you will need to scrape off the sealer, remove the paint and stitch or seam weld the whole thing. On the Nissan's I have done for this reason I always weld the whole seam for a cleaner look unless the person is really worried about weight.
