price/gain ratio on cai's

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the price/gain ratio is on cai's. I'm looking into getting an aem cai for my 95 si mostly because I'm sure they're better than other brands and I don't want anything cheesy on my car but they're also a heck of a lot more expensive than the generic or lower name brands. does the performance justify the price, and are there other kinds that people have tried that would be something good to look into and haven't been complete pieces of crap. Also I realize that cai's aren't like huge hp gains or anything like that but any posts on how much each intake gives you would be helpful for me and a bunch of other people i think. I'll probably be posting one of these on exhaust as well. thanks, later.

Josh

im not sure on the power as i dont have one installed but the price is no longer ridiculous wih our sponsors. granted you wont get much hp (prolly enough to notice) but it is cheaper than headers and half the price of an exhaust

I personally have a generic bomz racing cai on my car that I bought for like $60 and I noticed a gain over my short ram intake. I dont think the AEMs will give you that much more gains over a less expensive brand....I would just stick with a cheaper intake IMO.

Ya, there's this guy on here that can get me an aem for 170 shipped which is a good deal compared to other places but do you know where I could get one of those bomz cai's?

i have a generic intake also, i dont' think AEM is totally better. for something like and intake, it is not rocket science. the only reason i would want a AEM is that it is carb legal, since i am from cali. also to note, that DC sport and Injen happens to be slight more expensive then AEM.

I had great results from going from a generic short ram to an AEM cai, gained ~5hp.

That's from switching from a short "hot ram" intake to a cold air. It has nothing to do with being generic. A generic cold air with a good filter will perform just as well as a name brand IMO.

A short ram can drop hp numbers from the stock airbox once the engine bay temps get too hot.

You're only gonna get 3-5 whp from an CAI, so you decide if it's worth the extra $100 plus to get name brand recognition.

Personally, I wouldn't buy an ebay intake simply because I don't want anything cheap on my car, but if your after cheap hp, then get the ebay.

BTW, I had an AEM intake on my lude for over two years and I loved it.

I hope this anwered your questions and I'm glad to see we changed your mine on that front mount intake
