prelude ute design contraints

hi from australia
i would like to design and modify a 92 - 96 prelude into a tradies ute
have had the idea for a while but now find myself back on the tools after many a year with a white collar on
have owned this model before and had cranked up over 300 km without a hitch
loved every journey in that car so i would like to experience that again

basically chuck the boot, rear and rear quarter glass away and maybe extend body work a little following the same existing lines and finish off with a timber tailgate
i would need carry racks so wondering about possible suspension modifications needed
i imagine a roll bar just behind the front seats and the rear spoiler moved back and up to form the rear bar
am starting from scratch so will need to a source suitable vehicle and modification shops / that can do this legally

In Australia, a Ute (Utility truck) is what is known as a truck in the States. So, this guy wants to turn his Prelude into a truck, with a flat bed where the rear seats and rear quarter panels would usually be.
Hope this helps you mate!

Ewwww, please don't ruin this car by doing that, the El camino's existence is bad enough.

The El Camino look is a perfect example of what he is trying to achieve. In my opinion, and it seems yours, is just wrong.

I find it odd only in Australia do these hybrid car/truck combos ever work.

They never sell anywhere else in the world. Interesting, but seems like a labor of love. The rear is just too short to make a usable bed. It looks like you want to elongate it.

They did it to a 3rd gen on Top Gear Australia. Can't see this turning out any better.

For the price it would cost to modify and make legal for road use, just buy
a HSV
HSV Showroom - Driven By Instinct
or a Ford

If he wanted a Holden or Ford ute like everyone else he would buy one?
I reckon it could look cool, but it would be hard and like utes in general, only look cool to us Aussies haha. But it could look cool. And it would definatly be different.

if you do this... you won't be looking just into body work and frame extension.... you will need a new and stronger suspension to avoid scraping the rear end everywhere... you might even need to raise your height of the car... If you are trying to do this on a budget i can tell you right now you will be running into lots of problems!

do like the idea to be different but this would be a tuff task for sure

If you wanted a Japanese ute, then maybe a Suburu brumby (brat) with a WRX swap?
