I drive a 96 Prelude which I'm pretty sure is an Si model. However, I'm ordering parts for it and I want to make sure it definitely is an Si model. Is there a definite way to check? Also, I've seen contrasting reports that the Si has 2.3L or 2.4L engine. Can anyone clarify? Thanks.
Si 96 is ODBII 2.3L 160hp 156lbs/ft torque. And to be totally sure, you can pop your hood, look at the engine, (if its vtec it'll say dohc vtec) But look down on your transmission , kinda under the distributer area (i believe) and it should say h23a or h22a. H23a is the Si motor.
No such thing as a 2.4L in any Prelude, ever. You either have an H22A1 2.2L (VTEC models) or a 2.3L H23A1. Pop the hood, if you valve cover says "DOHC VTEC" you have the 2.2L Si VTEC. If you have "DOHC" then it's a 2.3L Si. If you see neither, it's a 2.2L F22 S model.
There are a lot of other (trim) differences, but if you bought the car used, that might not mean much.
Thanks for the timely responses guys, and thanks for the welcome. I just bought this car a few weeks ago and I've still a little unfamiliar with the whole "Luder" scene. I've made a few cosmetic mods on the car, but I'm really looking forward to making some basic engine mods in the near future. Thanks again for the advice!
