prelude fenders....bendable? (body work)

hey guys

When I first bought my car, it was in a slight wreck, well I guess not slight, because it did deploy the airbag. Anyway, the fender is still pushed in a bit, its not really that bad, and I dont feel like really giving it to a body shop to get it fixed. The bumper is hanging off the fender, and it kinda looks bad, with one side sagging.

Are fenders bendable with the bare hands? or can i get a mallet (rubber hammer) and hit it back into place? If you look at the pic you can see....
I was planning on fixing this while I have my JDMs and Fogs to put on, im going to take off the bumper anyway...so might as well

what do you guys think...

haha, thats what my car looks like. i got the same thing going on because some guy backed onto me. if you're handy you might be able to hammer it out. i gave mine to my friend and he tried to fix it up for me. it looks okay, not perfect but good enough ya know. there are little imperfections on it, but its better than having it sink in i guess. he used a little rubber mallet.

yeah u can hit it with a rubber mallet to straighten it out, but it looks like the whole headlight assembly got pushed in?, fender is not too hard to take off and its not welded on.

I am a bodyman and I am pretty sure that you can just pull it out with your hands, I would not hammer on it because you will put high and low spots in the fender itself. When you take your bumper off you will see a ten millameter bolt that holds that part of the fender in place. But first try this, when you have your bumper off take off your headlamp assembly, then find a nice piece of two by four or something of that nature wich is hard and flat,(must be smooth, so not to damage the fender) then stick it behind the part of the fender that is pushed in, then get a bar of some sort and stick it between the wood and the inner fender and pry gently, it will not take much so don't he man it. It should walk out, you might have to set your bumper back up just to see how far to go. Then when you put back on your bumper to fix the end, If you look at the under side of the fender(where the bumper mates too you should see a hole with a plastic nylon nut in it, if it is still intacked just get your self a ten mill. bolt with a course threads and put it back through the bumper into the fender, that should do it, alot of hondas also have a little clip that goes into the side of the fender that the bumper snaps into, if it is there great! make sure you snap the bumper back in, if not, no big deal just put that screw back in there and it will hold, you might need a washer if the bumper was ripped out though. Hope that helps. email me if you have anymore questions.

from looking at the pictures again you might have some bumper reinforcement damage also, you will see when you take the bumper off.

everything was fixed by a body shop EXCEPT that damn fender...so im hoping it will work out for me, thanks a crap load slp. I'll try what you said, again im taking out the headlights anyway to put the JDMs on so, might as well give it a shot.

Also, if i force the bumper to align with the fender (the bumper clip) everything looks perfect, so its that fender thats not holding up the bumper right....

Um I don't quite understand the question, I think you mean that if you force the bumper in place it looks okay. Is that right? If thats it then. no besides a little bit of effort the bumper should slide right on with no extra muscle(unless there is further reinforcement damage) so if you do have to muscle it the fender is still bent. Also make sure when you bend it out to watch the fender to hood line. Make sure you don't bend it out to far, Just look at the other side to line it up.(the other hood to fender line)

Also if you open your hood, you will see the fender bolts on top there is like 4 of them I think. If you can't line up the hood fender line and your bumper fits okay. you can loosen those up top and pull the fender in and out about 2 or 3 millameters to make the line right, and that won't affect the bumper to fender line.

yea if i force it into place its completely fine...headlights and everything lineup perfect. I highly doubt theres any reinforcement damage, because again, i paid a grand to have everything fixed. Appearently they didnt fix the fender part...

well if you force it and put the bumper bolt in does it stay? If not then you still got some problems bro.

from what I under stand theres a plastic clip that the bumper slides into on the fender (besides a screw thats held on right by the wheel well). When I push the bumper into the fender for the plastic part to lock with the fender it pops right back out. So if I pull the fender out (which again is pushed it from what i see) and push the bumper in, it should hold.

Ill go take some quick shots again...hold

correct if you push the bumper in that clip, and it pops out there is too much pressure on the bumper those clips only have a little lip on them to catch the bumper, thats why the fender kinda has to be perfect or damn close. Just try pushing out the fender a lttle more, I bet that will fix the problem.

Yeah bro your fender is still way in. Push it out with the technique I told you about and you will be good to go.
