OK i am totally confused about how my lude has been acting and would like to see if anyone has had this happen to them before i dish out money for just a diagnostic.
OK so this problem happens more then not, but sometimes it drives like its back to normal.
When it is acting up, my idle will be very low and sometimes jump between near 0 and 500 once or twice. This will only happen when the car is warmed up. There has been a few occasions when the idle would just go down all the way til the car dies. (majority of the time the check engine light is lit)
I know i am going to be told to find out what the code is, but i want to see first if there is anything i might be able to do before i do dish out the cash to get her running back to normal.
You're getting a CEL, but you want to know what you can do before you check the code?? That sounds counter productive to your not wanting to dish out cash... We can tell you tons of things to fix/replace that could have nothing to do with it..
Check the code and let us know from there..

In other words, remove your IACV (idle air control valve) and remove the carbon deposits with some carbon cleaner. Shouldn't cost more than 5 bucks at autozone. Just make sure you put a cloth under the iacv before removing it. My car was doing that and even though that may not be the problem it may help significantly to your car staying put at 700. In case you're wondering the iacv is located behind the engine on and attatched the the throttle body. If I'm wrong then someone please correct me because it's been a while since I've done it.
correct. I cleaned mine out, that helped a little. I ended up buying a used one from ebay for cheap. there are a couple of guys parting out cars on the board...you may be able to pick up one from them for cheap
I agree. Check the IACV, take it out and clean the small screen like filter inside of it. If it is clogged your engine may not be idling correctly. Clean it and its fixed. HOWEVER...you may need a NEW one, check the junkyard or order a new one from autozone. I ran into the same problem too!
