This has been bugging me to no end for some time now. My auto roll down on my drivers side hasn't worked since I got the car. I just can't figure out why it won't work. I figured that maybe it was the switch assy so I got another one off someone who said that theirs worked before they took it apart. I swapped it in and still no auto down.
I guess my question is how does this feature work? I noticed that there is a little solenoid inside the switch assy and I thought that that just holds the switch down but I am just guessing. Is there some kind of control box in the door or under the dash that I could replace?

Any help would be appreciated.
Mine doesn't stay down. You push it down and then there is a click. Any good install shop should be able to rebuild that module. Then you could get window automation on an alarm
Well after much poking, testing, and soldering I have found out a few things. The way that these things work is that there is a solenoid inside the switch assy. This solenoid is controled by a PCB on the back of the assy. The solenoid engages whenever the window is is motion. When you push the switch all the way down (auto) the solenoid locks a pin down that prevents the switch from going back up and the window continues to roll down. When the PCB sences that the window has stopped (more current pull) it disengages the solenoid and the switch pops back up and the window stops. I think my problem was that the connection to the solenoid has fried out and therefore the solenoid was not engaging. Unfourtunately the soldering to repair the connection is some of the most tedious I have ever attempted and couldn't do it properly. I did get it jury rigged (jamed the wire in place) and got the window to auto down until the wire worked its way loose.
The reason the replacement switch assy didn't work is that it too had burnt out. Luckily I have already ordered another used one off a '96 this time and he assured me it is functional.
I have the Viper 550 esp and it wouldn't do my windows. Works the sunroof just fine but it can't get around the auto roll feature without rebuilding the module.

I have remote start tho
Well you have me beat there with the remote start. But Its cool with the window module because my sunroof, pass. window and driver window in the inside are all auto up and auto down if I want.
Originally posted by $$lude We were going to do all of it but even DEI said it won't work. It would role the window down about two inches and then stop. I was so mad.

EDIT: I now have 2 stars.
huh only two? weak
Does the part that controls the actual window stay down because on my car the actual switch doesn't stay down when the window is going down on auto.
My power windows have a hard time rolling down. They will like slow down and speed up like the motors are going out or something...I'm not real sure. Can someone tell me how I would fix this?
