Went and looked at a '94 VTEC today. It has all options, including leather which I don't care for, 16" wheels, AEM cold air intake, headers, exhaust, 160k miles, and if I am correct a JDM H22. The engine block code read only H22A. Not H22A1 like the '93 VTEC i checked out. It is a 5 speed. They are asking $5900. Does this sound like a good deal? I used to absolutely hate the 4th gens until I drove one yesterday. Now I am liking them and looking at getting rid of my '97 Honda Passport (a Honda badged Isuzu Rodeo) for one. The interior is actually comfortable. Thanks.
It drove great. No rough sounds or anything. Body is in great shape. On the passenger side rear quarter is some keying marks, but other than that great shape. Wonder if it has the M2B4 tranny too. I had the salesman double check the VIN to make sure it was a factory VTEC b/c of the engine and it is. BB117 code. Was looking to get a '90 or '91 Si but I love that VTEC engine and the 4th gen is growing on me. Would make a great compliment to my 5th gen.
Duron- Be advised that the drivers seat has a tear where the stitching is coming apart. I have emailed the dealer and will contact him him Monday mroning. If he still has it it will be mine that afternoon. I can't enough of the Prelude and the VTEC engine. I'll pm you if I get it and send photos of the seats to see fi you are still interested. But it would a trade I am interested in.
Since you still haven't bought it, be aware that mods (those that are not easily reversible) lower the value of a car, not raise it. It may be configured great for what you want and is worth it to you, but the market value has suffered compared to other 94 VTECs. It's probably worth what he's asking, but just so you know.

Mileage is 160k on the odometer. Mileage on on JDM motor is unknown. The price is good for the market here in CO. Preludes that aren't beat up are hard to come by. Especially the upper end models.
Ask how long ago the engine swap was done (to help determine what maintenance may be necessary immediatly like timing belt)
Ask when the timing belt, balance belt and tensioner were replaced (you dont wanna have to spend that $$ when you get the car if it was done already recently)
Ask what type of oil was used, and how often it was changed
Ask what octane fuel they were using. (Cars like this meant to run on premium, when run on anything less then 91-93 octane tend to have problems after long term usage)
Check the tires. I just went to test drive 5 cars this past weekend, and the cars tires were all rediculously worn out, or swapped front to rear in attempt to disguise the abuse the car had received.
Price sounds decent for a VTEC prelude, milage is a little high on the body so if it has those side ding guards on the fenders (rubber strip which goes over all 4 fender lips) make sure there isnt rust. If there is, make the seller knock 4-500.00 off the price for necessary repairs.
Good luck and enjoy your new prelude if you purchase it!
The dealer didn't even know it was a JDM engine. Both 4th Gen I have looked at have brand new tires. But I called him first thing this morning and he had already sold later that afternoon on the Friday I looked at it. Oh well. There is a 96 VTEC with 80k within 100 miles. Only thing bad about that one in the photos is the 2 tome tan and black interior.

I have the tan and black leather interior and it is quite beautiful when its kept clean.
don't let that discourage you, Tan is quite classy as far as most people are concerned. ~ Brett
I agree, I was just trying to give the man some encouragement. haha, Seriously though.. I like them both.. I just need more people to join me with the tan leather so I'm not the only one ~ Brett
As long as the interior is clean, it won't bother me. That is one helluva clean interior. Hope I can find one like that.
I'm sorry i posted that pic in ur thread, i dont like to butt into people business, but i wanted you to see if you keep the tan maintained well it will impress you and your guests in your car for as long as you maintain it.
(BTW) when i purchased this lude, some people have seen the whole interior was dark brown with crud, cigarette burns al over, it used to have wood grain trim, and someone took a baseball bat, or a strong fist to the console.. i ordered oem floormats etc to make it look new again and spent hourts per seat to detail them to the point of looking clean. I just wanted to show you that so you dont get discouraged by the two tone interiors
I think that interior looks sweet (95_5Speed), I'd choose it any day. The only problem is, you can easily tell where the plastic center console panel hangs over the carpet.
Q9erLude: If you were in California, I'd trade you.

Well, trading in the Passport on a '93 Vtec 5-speed with cloth interior. After looking at 3 4th gens, this one is the only one that is completely stock. Looked at a '96 VTEC today but it had 77k miles and a 5th gen motor. Kinda scares me that there was body work done on the pasenger side (crappy work at that. paint was peeling and cracking) and the motor was a H22A4. Makes me wonder what happened to the original motor. It has to get detailed and a few minor things fixed but I will pick it up on Thursday or Friday. Thanks for all the input and help. I will now have 2 Preludes this weekend (both red with black cloth interiors).
