Port and Polish on aHh22

My friend is getting a "Stage 4" port and polish on his JDM H22? What kind of numbers can he expect from this job? He is saying 40 hp but i think he is just over-excited about this. i just dont see 40 hp from a port and polish from an N/A motor. And to be more exact about it, what is involved in a port and polish job?

thanks,
tim

Yes he can get 40hp from a head job. I called Gude performance the other day and i'm getting that done on my H22.

The package include p&P head + intake monifold. big bore throtle body, valve job, and high performance camshaft.

I HIGHLY recommend you do a search on Gude before you let them touch your motor.

Why?

Have you heard bad things about them? I'm in the process of looking them up right now. I want to find out everything I can before i ship my motor over to them.

However do you think I'm getting a good deal here. They said that i'll get 40 to 45 hp for my $ 1450.

It seems that getting work done w/ JG or Gude is hit-or-miss, in terms of getting quality work done. What I don't understand is, if they're so good, why don't more Luders get work done by them? What companies do solid headwork that won't blow the engine up? DPR?

Well, no one here have told me that they have had work done with those companies, however it seems like they don't trust thier work. I would not want to be the first to get ripped off of something.

I really want to get this done, so what are my alternitives?

Like Ryan recommended, do a search, here on the boards' archives for more info on Gude & JG. I'm looking into getting some nice headwork done in the near future, since I sold my turbo parts, so I'm going to have to find a reputable shop, myself. I'd be willing to risk going w/ JG's Pro Series heads, but as of now, I don't know who else I can trust. I'm going to look more into whether or not DPR will work w/ H23's... if not, I need to know who will, b/c I'm not swapping out to a JDM H22 'til the H23 goes kaboom.

Per the subject, you will NOT get 40HP from porting and polishing anything! You would definitely have to have a cam in there, and more than likely, a good p/p job to match.

"Stage xx" means crap. I'll sell you a Stage 99 head job if you like. It's all about WHO does it, what they know, and what they do.

Can't speak for Gude, though...

What kind of cams would you go with. Do you any experience with any brand. What would you say about the skunk2 stage II cams with valve springs and retainers.

They offer Port-Flow headwork. For $850 you get a P&P, multi-angle valve job, and mill to your spec. You can also add things like new springs, etc... for extra cash. Its all on their site. Here are some pics off of the site.
