Please help!!!!...JDM fog light relay and switch problems
For the 4th gen fog light RELAY and SWITCH install:
I hooked up a brand new OEM RELAY to a aftermarket switch using these (3) wires:
Red/Yellow (positive)
Red/Green (illumination for switch)
Black (negative ground all the time)
Are these the correct wires that I use for the switch???
Also, when I turn on the headlight low beams and the switch (illuminated), the RELAY makes this decently loud continuous buzzing noise and it only goes away after I turn off the switch.
I know this has been asked but there wasn't a clear answer to this problem and I'm afraid that it's damaging something.
Please help me out with this problem as soon as you can.
that wiring was correct with my OEM switch, I had that buzzing problem too, so i just removed the little bulb from the switch, which wasn't the right one to begin with..

for ilumination for the back light i dont use the fog switch wire harness, i spliced into another wire like the ashtray lead wire or for me i used my hazard lighst lead wire so whe i turn on parking lighst the switch illuminates
but like i said this all depends on what switch u have as there is like 4 or 5 different switches
man...ive had that buzzing problem with my relay since i installed my fogs. There has never been a clear answer to this question. What I do know is that when I pull the bulb the buzzing stops. Ive tried every bulb available to no avail. So Ive almost given up.

That sounds like an awesome idea to keep the backlight on w/ no relay buzz
The strange thing is that I disconnected the RED/GREEN wire from my illumination switch terminal, leaving it bare and the buzzing stopped and my switch still lights up like normal.
I guess either the Ignited switch or maybe switches in general don't need the illumination wire, and only need the positive RED/YELLOW and the negative BLACK.
What do you think???
Can you also hook up the wire to make the switch light up all the time, whether it's on or off???
well my switch is a JDM switch so it has a back light which the usdm doesn't but it also has a LED that only lights when the lights are on. the red/yellow - Black wires are for basically turning on and off the fogs and lighting tyhe led when fogs are on (im not shure exactly how your switch is supposed to work) but if you want that extra(third wire) to have power to it like i said splice it into another power wire.
Is the RED/GREEN wire for the switch REQUIRED for the fog light to come on???
When I plugged in my Ignited LED switch using the RED/GREEN wire for switch illumination the fog lights came on as well as the buzzing noise from the relay. When I disconnected the RED/GREEN wire the fog lights DIDN'T come on.
What should I do about that wire???
Remember I was using the RED/YELLOW for (+) and BLACK for (-).
I'm still having trouble hooking up my foglight switch (Ignited LED toggle switch) and getting the foglights to work with it.
I have tried the following wire hook ups:
1) RED/YELLOW (+)
2) RED/GREEN (12V illumination)
3) BLACK (-)
Result: foglights come on with headlights but switch light doesn't and RELAY buzzing is present.
Also I tried:
1) RED/YELLOW (+)
2) RED/BLACK (12V illumination)
3) BLACK (-)
Result: Switch light comes on with parking lights and console lights but foglights don't come on with no RELAY buzzing.
Please help me figure out which EXACT wire colors should I use and where should I plug them into on the switch.
Thanks again so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont think its possible to use a switch with only 3 wires, but Im not sure.
I was playing around with the switch harness today, and I only got my aftermarket fogs to work when my headlights are on, but no buzzing. It got dark so stopped playing with it. I try to mess around with it more tomorrow.
alright, I have a 92, so my switch is in my tweeter cover. It seems like when I connect the red/yellow wire to the orange wire, the fogs turn on with the lowbeams and turn off with high beams. when I connect the red/yellow to red/green, fogs turn on with headlights and buzzing noise happens. When I connect the red/yellow to the thick red wire, fogs turn on when parking lights turned on, but turn off when when headlights are on. Also, when I connect red/yellow to black (ground), the fogs turn on only when headlights turn on.
so I don't even know why my fogs turn on when I don't even use the red/green wire which is the wire going to the fog lights.
Why don't you try the red/yellow, orange, and black and see what happens.
Do you mean connect the RED/YELLOW to the "positive" prong, the ORANGE to the "12V illumination" prong, and the BLACK to the "negative" prong???
What did you mean by connecting the different color wires together??? Do you mean merge/twist both color wires together and put crimp them into one spade connector and plug that into "ONE" prong on the switch???
yea this thread is getting confusiong without any type of graphical wiring diagram with everything labelled (including what the red/yel red/grn red/blk wires are for in the helms and wiring diagrams.
Ok guys... c'mon think about this for a second. You have to connect 2 power wires together to make the fogs work. So if you have a switch that's 3 prong, ground, power, illumination (the illumination is going to be your power source). SO... you use power in to the 'illumination' prong, power out to the power prong, and ground to ground (i'm guessing the ground is for the LED since you don't need a ground to make the fogs work.
Whichever 2 wires you guys are using with a paperclip are the 2 wires you'll use on the switch. I'm using a factory switch so I can't specifically tell you right now what those 2 wires are, but it wouldn't take me but a couple seconds to figure it out.
Oh and btw, I've never had a buzzing/relay problem, so those of you who do, must have something hooked up wrong.
