Please give a little input..

I am about to buy a set of wheels for my Prelude. I already know what I am getting, but the offsets to choose from are driving me nuts. We all know what offsets work on the prelude, and which ones don't. I have my car lowered about 1.75-2". My camber is perfect. I had a set of wheels before that were 17x7.5 with a +43 offset. They rubbed every now and then, and it drove me nuts. The wheels I am getting this time come in about 10 different offsets. I am looking at a 17x7 with a +50 offset. Does anyone here have a wheel this size? I am looking to keep it a little tucked. The stock wheels look nice tucked into the wheel wells. I don't want the wheels to be flush with the fenders, and I don't want to roll the lip. I know that the +50 will fit, but I want to know how that offset looks on the car. So if anyone has pics of +50 17x7 wheel then please post them. Thanks.

yeh i'm wondering the same thing...

i also been through many sets of wheels on my prelude. (lowered about 2-2.25") Tucking my tires a little bit.
17x7 with 42 offset...its ok
17x7 with 40 offset..it rubbed slightly
17x7.5 with 43 offset ...its ok (current)

I might be getting some 17x7 with 47 offset soon. And i was also wondering how it will look?? Anyone have pics?

Don't the stock alloys have +50 mm or +55 mm offset? The +50 mm wheels you are looking at will basically have the same depth in the wheel well as the stock alloys.

I would rather have the rims fill in the wheelwell a little more. It makes the car look more aggressive. You are gonna have a hard time finding a pic of 17" +50mm offset rims on a lude. That size is really uncommon.

By sticking to an offset that is closer to the actual +55 of the stock wheels, you keep the suspension geometery more in tune to what the factory had in mind when they designed the car. The car handles like a champ with the stock set up. And the 17x7.5 with the +43 offset that I had before rubbed, and actually degraded the handling of the car. I don't care about it being more "Aggressive" looking. I think they look better with them tucked. But that is My own personal opinion. I actually ordered the wheels about an hour ago. I ordered a set of old school Volk AV3's. I ordered them with a custom gunmetal center with a high polished lip. I think they will look very good. They should be here sometime in Mid January.

my rims are 17x7 +50mm. it's a 5th gen, and not lowered, but even if it was lowered i think they would look just fine.

Taken from VTEC.NET

Gen5 Prelude Stock wheel/tire specs:
rim height 16"
rim width 6.5"
bolt pattern 5 bolts, 4.5" (114.3mm)
offset 55mm
tire brand Bridgestone RE-92
tire size 205/50VR-16
hubcentric? yes
wheel weight 19 lbs. each (Base) 19.7lbs. each (Type SH)
tire weight 20.55 lbs. each (Manufacturer Claims 22lbs)

Comments from Nam:
Here is a diagram for reference.

Factory specs: 16x6.5" with 55mm offset.

Why don't I recommend anything less than 45mm offset and why do some wheels/tires rub on our car? Here's the calculations...anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Ex: 17x7.5" with 45mm offset.

1) Take the difference in width vs. stock width and divide by 2. So you'd get in this case: (7.5 - 6.5) / 2 = 0.5"

2) Convert difference in offset to inches (1cm = 2.54inches): 55 - 45 = 10mm=1cm = 0.39"

3) Add (1) and (2) together: 0.5 + 0.39 = 0.89" = movement of outer lip of aftermarket wheel relative to the factory wheel's lip. This does NOT yet account for the tire's sidewall extending slightly outside of the lip either.

If you look at the factory from directly behind or front, you'll notice that there isn't a whole lot of room between the outer wheel lip or tire wall relative to the fender lip. Measure that and you'll see why too little offset will rub and if you lower the car...bingo!

Results for different wheels and offset, no mater if they are 16, 17, or 18" wheels. My personal opinion is to go with anything below that is less than 1.0" movement, and you'll be safe.

7.0" with 38mm offset = 0.92" <== too much
7.0" with 45mm offset = 0.64"
7.0" with 48mm offset = 0.53"

7.5" with 38mm offset = 1.17" <== too much
7.5" with 45mm offset = 0.89"
7.5" with 48mm offset = 0.78" <== my personal choice

8.0" with 38mm offset = 1.42" <== don't even think of it
8.0" with 45mm offset = 1.14"
8.0" with 48mm offset = 1.03"

This is what a used to decide on my rims. I have 17x7 +40 and a 1.5 drop. No rub
