I've had mine off for 40k miles. No problems
I was a little bit anxious about this initially, but the Honda tech I spoke to said not to worry about it.

If you don't mind some mud caked onto your wheel wells, it shouldn't be a problem.

I took mine off when I was doing my timing belt, and I was too lazy to put it back in. I haven't had any problems so far. The only reason I could think of is that it kinda protects the accessory belts from the mud/dirt...

ya I would be worried about getting water locked if I took it off.......my ex-bf just got water locked and it sent a piston rod through his oil pan....

Um, no it doesn't. The splash guard he's talking about goes under the front of the car, which covers up your radiator and pullies... Your CAI is protected by the passenger side fender cover. Go take a look at your passenger side wheel well, that plastic piece extends out, blocking the CAI from any water, dirt, etc.
