Planning an h22 swap

My Prelude is a 92 with an h23. I want to swap in the h22, but plan to keep my tranny; it's a 5spd. other than the motor and head, what else do i need to change? and can i get away with chipping my ecu and running an h22 map on the chip? thanks.

Here's a good place to start.

Any engine swap write-ups?

Some/all 4th gens factory wired for VTEC?

1. The head is on the engine, so... you just need the engine.
2. Might as well swap the tranny as the one that comes with the H22 is geared differently for the engines power curve
3. You need a new ECU
4. SEARCH! This has been covered a billion times. Most vendors will sell you the H22 with the tranny and ECU

your tranny will bolt to the motor, along with your clutch/flywheel. i actually kept my h23 tranny as well. i plan on swapping final drives, so the slightly taller gears will be negated. you will have to run 2 wires to the ecu, and yes you will need a new ecu. the wires are easy to run, all you need are the pins to pin your stock harness. one pin is large, the other small. i used a large pin from a sensor on the JDM harness that came with the motor and removed the small pin from the stock harness where it plugs into the ecu(it was for a/c and mine was removed). I found this website to be helpful: The Notorious H23A to H22A Swap - Automotive Forums .com Car Chat

If you are planning on bringing the comp. up you would want shorter gears as opposed to the longer gears of the h23 tranny so you would have to either change around the final drive/gears or just do it the easy way and get an h22 tranny.

* Exhaust Manifold
* Alternator
