Performance Distributors?

This thread is based off of my recent distributor dilema of having a distributor go bad. Then I talked to a friend about it and he said that I should get a performance distributor that can handle high speed driving or racing. But this is a little to late cause I already got a OEM distributor from majestic honda for 252. Some of these aftermarket dist. are more expensive though.

Anyways, Has anyone heard about performance distributors? Are they better than OEM worse or less reliable. Any real performance gains?

Heres a few that I found...

In my experience, if a performance part is going to be better than stock, the manufacurer will plaster that information everywhere. Neither one of these places do that. The only thing the moroso distributer said was that it has a sealed shaft bearing, but the stock honda distributor has that too. The moroso distributor does have that slick transparent cap though....I'm sure that's worth 5Hp.

so are you sure that the honda one has a sealed shaft bearing? well despite having the car three years and driving it hard plus being 11 yrs old i think the new dist. should last just as long even though its OEM. But for 125 dollars less I'll go with the oem over the after market distributor.

Thanks for responding trident!

Well I've never really heard of an aftermarket dizzy being too much more reliable than an OEM piece, so that argument's null and void. The only other reasons for using one were when you were going from a vacuum advance dizzy to a centrifugal advance dizzy, and when you wanted different advance currves on non-computer driven cars. Nowadays, you have an ECU that handles the timing, so there's no need for that.

Go OEM.

I didn't think Moroso made a distributor for the H22...at least not with the awesome clear cap w/ 5 HP gain!
