Performance diff. between S and SI engines?

Okay,

I know all the specs about the two engines and I drove a 93 Prelude S for four years. Today I test drove a 96 Prelude SI, expecting there would be a noticably harder pull, and it wasn't much different. It was a little louder. Now, maybe I'm wrong, but shouldn't a DOHC 160 HP engine be respectably faster than a SOHC 135 HP engine? At, say, 3500 rpm?

This car has been maintained better than a blonde Beverly Hills girlfriend. I don't think it was a dud.

What do you guys think?

-Dan

It's the same feeling that I get when I drive a stock VTEC versus my Si engine - the difference in feel is pretty marginal even though the H22 engine has 30 more hp.

Well the "feel" is not going to be night and day. besides the gearing is different too. the H23 definitly has a higher top speed.

Okay, that goes a long way in explaining it. Maybe that's why the clutch felt a little harder to handle. That also means that a taller 5th gear gets a little better gas mileage... at least it helps it achieve the same mileage as the S.... maybe.

Anybody know where I can find the gear ratios?

Dan

Huh... he lists the tranny for "USDM 4th gen," but then farther down in the thread he says that in the FAQ it lists the ratios for the various different trims. There appears to be no FAQ on Honda-Tech.

Confusating.
