People with dash rattles read this!!!

I have this very bad dash rattling near both tweeter area and last weekend I decided to start investigating this and started taking my dash appart piece by piece. I didn't have time to do much yet but I had already taken the small plastic parts underneat it (glove box things and underneat the steering), tweeter cover, the top part and visor or whatever what's it's called and the stereo area. (Kept the CC in because of the heat ). So I've been going to work with the car that way since this weekend and if you ever done that you know that people are gonna ask what the hell you're doing to your car So anyway I went to lunch with a coworker today and he did asked me so I told him I was chasing dash rattles and he told me that he had some sort of dash rattles too in his Cavalier (I think it's a 95 or somewhere in that model) and that it was the hood hinges that were doing that noise and that when it was in a place that was windy it would be worst than usual. So when I was on my way back from work I noticed that the dash wasn't rattling much (I wasn't going very fast since I just got a speeding ticket last week and I still have about another week before I start driving normally ) so when I got home I decided to check them if they seem loose of something and there is in fact a small loose in them that makes a little noise when I play with the side of the hood.

So guys if you have a rattle that seems to be coming from your dash near the tweeter cover check your hood hinges!!! I'll be ordering a new pair very soon so I'll let you guys know if it did the trick!

Interesting, might very well try it. Can't you just tighten up the hinges instead of ordering new ones.

I don't think you can tighten that part, and new hinges are only 20$US each so it's not so bad to get rid of that rattle that's been driving me nut for quite some time

Yeah I had the same damn rattle on the passenger side before. I got out of the car while it was rattling, (car was parked, duh) and found it to be a worn out hood hinge.

I couldn't hear it while the car is idling so I probably would've never find out it was the hood hinges. I'm so happy it told me about that I can barely stand in place. It was starting to drive me crazy so bad I was almost starting to think about getting a new car but if new hinges fixes this I might be keeping the Lude for a while

Well guys I got my new hinges today and I swapped them. The noise is gone!!!! I drove a bit with the sunroof closed and the windows up just so I could hear it and all I could hear is the rear suspension noise (still waiting on those endlinks that are backordered!!!) and a few sqeaks from the plastic inside the car that I didn't noticed because the hinges were making too much noise. But the car is sooo much quieter now

I also tightened the hinges but that wasn't the problem for me. The problem for me was that the DC-AC Inverter was loose.

This I haven't seen .. the only thing that rattles in my driver side is my crossover for my mids ... the pass. side something else rattles though .. along with the pass. side sun visor ... I'll be ordering some brown bread soon (dynamat alternative) and givin the car a couple times over .. hopefully I'll silence her.

I'm not sure all years have this dc-ac invertor in there. Is that the little box for the EL gauge? My tweeter covers are off right now so I'll take a look when I go eat in 10 minutes but I'm pretty sure I don't have that (at least not there)

Nope there's nothing under the tweeter cover in my car. I'm guessing it's for the EL gauge since I don't have them.
