Passenger side axle -> transmission

I have a quick question. When I put the passenger side axle in the tranny, there's like a 1/8" space between the axle and tranny. Is it suppose to sit in flush all the way, or is it suppose to have that space in between?

What I found that helps set it is by putting the inboard joint in first, then holding the outboard joint, and kinda hammer it in by pushing on the shaft. Get what I'm saying? Good luck.
