park to drive, hesitation

ok, so I tried searching, came up with squat

when i shift from park to drive(or reverse to drive), and hit the gas, the car seems like it has a slight hesitation right after i hit the gas, it's like it's not locking into gear or something(not an automechanic, could be something totally different)

but if i wait a few seconds after putting it in drive, it won't do it, no CEL's , no D4's flashing, everything seems to be fine

96 prelude si 85,000 miles

thanks

has it always been like that, or are you just noticing it now? I'm not too familiar with autos either, all I can say is (and I apologize ahead of time) hey, what can you expect from a slushbox?

Sorry, it just came out. anyway, I work for a rental car company so I drive an unfortunate number of automatics every day, basically that happens with all the cars, so maybe it's normal.

hmm...my gf's benz does the same thing...as well as other benz's i've driven. my parent's camry's don't. basically if i'm in reverse, then brake, it seems like i'm driving a manual because when i'm shifting from reverse to drive, the car kinda rolls with the momentum and shifts smoothly.

anyway, case in point, i wouldn't worry too much about it. i'm guessing it has to do with your ECU, and how fast it's thinking. if you haven't felt anything really out of the ordinary, i would just wait that extra second or two and go on.
