Paint?

So, the clear coat on my lude is coming off. Anyone has any idea on what I can do. Don't tell me I have to repaint it, cause i already know that. I know it will be spendy too, but if anyone can tell me how to prep the car for paint like sanding and stuff like those, and you can tell me the sanding paper number that would be great. I am really short of cash, so if i prep it for a painter, it would cost way less, but i don't want to screw anything up.thanks.

You shouldn't bother with it, doubt it will reduce the price that much, all they do is sand the clear coat off and fill any imperfections, not like they go to bare metal unless you tell them to.

if you really really want to do it your self, use 80 grit and a decent sanding block, that will strip the paint down to the primer pretty quick with a bit of elbow greece. after that work you way to 100 and then 150, then you can do what ever as far as paint goes, send it to macco, local body shop, whatever. however i dont know how to take off JUST the clear coat.....

!!!!! STOP !!!!!
Do not even think about using 80 grit on your car, or anyones car! 80 grit is only for bodywork, not paintwork. To "help" prep for paint you need to use an orbital sander (DA) with 320 grit paper. You will need to feather all edges of the peeling clear back until it no longer flakes off. If it is peeling off badly the panels may need to be stripped of their clear, this is kinda out of your league if you are not familiar with bodywork. If it is only a few spots then sanding yourself will be ok. The shop will need to prime these spots and sand them again anyway. If your car is black or any dark color I suggest letting and experienced technician handle it. I can give you some pointers if you want, just PM me.
