p/s rack help needed

does anyone have any experience in removing the p/s rack on a 4th gen? i know for sure that i need a new on because in a recent accident the rack was bent by a curb, creating a small crack between the gear box and the black piston housing that does to the passenger side wheel, leaking p/s fluid everywhere. i am a high school student, and recently without a job, so im too cheap to take it into the shop. with the help of a family friend who knows a bit more than i do, and a chilton, we got all the brackets removed, downpipe and exhaust loose, as well as the hydraulic lines and wheels removed. however, once the rack seemed to be free of any brackets and such, it was still impossible to remove. what seems to be the problem is the rod that connects the gearbox to the steering shaft goes up through a hole in the frame, and the frame below the rack wont let it drop low enough to remove the rod from the frame above. suggestions?

Never removed it, but the Chilton is utter garbage. At the very least, download a Helms from here: Free downloadable Honda and Acura Factory Service HELMS Manuals

I have never used any of these PDF Helms manuals, but its worth a try

Take the plunge and invest in a hardcopy of a Helms, it will pay for itself very quickly
