Overheating, PLease Advise !!!

Hi Guys,

I dont post too much in this Forum, but i read it everyday, and now i have a question.

My lude is a ´92 Si with no special mods, just the air intake and the muffler.

Yesterday was very hot here in Macau, and i drive it around for long time with the air con On, then i enter a underground car park and my idle was getting really low, the engine was almost stalling when i it the gas, i had to step on the gas real slow just to get it over 1000 RPM so it would not stall, and then i noticed the Temperature gauge almost in the end (overheat). I turn off the engine right away, and checked under the hood and i saw not coolant leeking. I also waited to cool down then checked the coolant level and it was full in the radiator and about half in the expansion tank.

I did flush the cooling system about 6 months ago when i buy this car and was pretty dirty, all rusty water coming out. I also repleced some water hoses in the last few months, but now i dont really know why it overheated... Any clues?

Thanks guys, this board is great

umm in my dads car it started over heating and the endtank cracked (which is a common thing in 4th gens because it's made of plastic). Actually, what happened, is the thermostat went out causing pressure to build and breaking the radiator.

Check out the thermostat... Im not sure if thats it though...

hey man, i just saw this but i would recommend you check your fans, make sure they come on, because this could cause the problem... it happened to me, and i was just missing a fuse! so check it out! good luck, let us know how it turns out.

yeah check those also... one time my mechanic forgot to plug those back in and I was overheating like crazy. If your overheating then I'm pretty sure your fans will come on after you turn off your car. If you overheat and you turn off your car and the fans don't come on, then there is most likely something wrong with them.

overheating

Please let me know what you find out. Please - I'm getting desperate. I've checked the thermo, water pump, radiator, sending unit (sensor). Still, when I turn my AC fan on, temp gauge goes all the way to hot but no steam comes out. The faster I drive, the faster it goes down. I've spent 800.00 trying to find out what the problem is. I'm currently looking for a new one and gonna sell this one.

Thanks for the replys guys.

Well my fans are all working, when its really hot the fans will continue working after i turn the ignition off.

Now im just not sure if the fan is working with the right speed, it sounds like its turning too slow.... but i dont know how to check if is this the problem.

Well in the weekend i will try to see what else i can find.

Im still driving the car without any overheating, it just happens on thos really hot days and when i turn my lights on... now thats really strange....

Water wetter

Try flushing your coolant and replace with Water Wetter and distilled water. You wont need any anti freeze added to it because our 'winter' months arent that cold.
