It is a BB1 thats seen a lot of action, and on rare occasions it would overheat. The motor was swapped from H22A1 to H22A about two years ago and I've put nearly 40K on it since.
Its been overheating. The first time it only hit that scrap of red on the gauges once, and I immediately turned off the car for it to cool before driving again. It hasn't behaved abnormally, or any more than usual anyway.
Now I've seen it a few times, when stopped at lights. I'm no fool, I'm thinking the fans finally gone. Except when I turn on the AC, they both kick on. Consulting the service manual reveals that it could only be the ECT relay, or is it a switch?
Reading a few threads here, along with HT and the other Prelude forums got me thinking. Normally this failure would cause a engine code. Yet my check engine light has not come on, and the p13 would seem to be controlling everything normally. No safe mode or dash indicator.
So I call the Honda dealer Thursday thinking they would have these in stock. I did not have a part number but ebay indicated that this was an identical part to similar Accords. The guy asks me where the switch is located, and I say radiator because that is where the part appears in the Honda parts diagram Ive got here. He tells me he can't find one and to call back with a part number. click.
Wonderful. He also mentioned that Preludes are always different. But he said it like he was annoyed. Now thats annoying to me. This is the dealership. I know my car was made in 1995 but if anyone has the information I need it should be the place with a big H sign.
Back to the overheating problem. Anyone have experience with an issue like this. I understand that their is a fan relay in the fusebox, and the switch itself inside the cabin. Though the service manual indicates a failure at either one of these locations would not have the same symptoms the car is experiencing. Perhaps you've had this same problem and can point me in the right direction.
And if you're still reading please let me know what lights on the gauges that should appear lit when turning the key to positions 1 and 2. It maybe my engine light bulb has never worked, and the engine oil light has never come on also.
Share the knowledge fourth gen brothers. All my friends and family tell me buy a new car.

I will as soon as I can find one new car that I like as much as this 95 VTEC.
