yeah...totally overpriced..you could buy an f-max kit more complete than that ...for $3400 and the standard setting for f-max kit is 9psi and you could almost 300whp if properly tuned...build the internals and you could hit 300+ hp...so and fmax has a better manifold than drag....
Yeah i was thinking just get the entire FMAX kit for my Si... what would u have to do ?? i'm new to FI stuff too cuz i didn't really do to much research, but have u seen a dyno Si lude with a stock FMAX turbo kit? When u talk about "tuning" what do u mean.. how much could u tune a turbo kit? sorry this might be stupid questions, but the FI stuff is new to meeeh... Thanks!
thats not a problem...FI is actually pretty easy...the most hp that you are looking at if you max it out with a fmax kit is about 450hp......personally the best kit to have for a beginner is the fmax kit because it basically comes complete even with a spearco intercooler and their manifold is one of the best compared to drag...Tuning is when you make sure that you are getting the right amount of air and fuel...since you put a turbo in there, you have alot of air being force in there and now you have to compensate for the fuel and basically you need bigger injectors than what you have...once again for the fmax kit...it comes with it and it also has MF2 you unless you are gonna be pushing for more hp, then you are gonna need a standalone system to handle that....like when you see those people tuning their cars with laptops...they have a aem ems or hondata or greddy excel to do that...try looking at www.f-max.com and you will see and it what each part do...just once you get it...you have to make sure that the proper fuel/air ration is balanced...if you need more info...dont hesitate to ask...
Cool -- Thanks for the 411. Do you have an FMAX turbo in your ride? I heard you need to lower the compression to soemthing from 9.8:1 to 8.6:1 by getting shorter pistons. Is it better to get new springs/retainers as well and maybe get the Head P&P. Is that just so the engine can handle the FI easier? do you know anyone who has an Si with FMAX turbo kit with a dyno sheet i can see? Thanks man!
the best example that i can give you is XES setup at hondaprelude.com....of course all that you mention is good for it but you are gonna be spending alot of money for it...for now...if you just plan on running on stock setting of the fmax kit which is 9psi of boost..then you should be ok with your stock internals...but the thing about it is tuning....you have to make sure that its properly tuned and if you run with higher boost, then you are gonna have to start upgrading your internals..get low compression pistons, rods, bigger injectors to be safe, i'm not sure if you have to resleeve the cylinder ....hhhmm ...thats all i can think off right now..i'm pretty sure that there is alot more that you have to do...my friend is trying to push 500+hp in his 2000 gsr so thats why i pretty much know some stuff about fmax ....i know that the the t3/t4 turbo is only good for 450hp max..i would suggest buy the fmax kit first and dont get to boost happy with it unless you plan on blowing some pistons up...my friend did that and decided to run 11psi and the car wasnt even properly tuned and cracked all four pistons..so be safe with it...its gonna cost alot just to let you know once you start using turbo...its not cheap ....its a very expensive addiction...hehehehe
I posted my dyno sheet on the FI board but I'm not sure if you saw it. This is a custom kit on a 92 Si at 10 psi for the blue line and 7 psi for the red line. Nothing has been done to the engine internals or head at all (not yet anyway). I know it's not the FMAX kit, but it gives you an idea of what the h23 is capable of, even without touching the engine.
Here is my full set-up:
-Clutchnet Stage 2 clutch
-Accel 300+ Thunder Sport wires
-ES motor mount inserts
-T3 stage 3 .63 a/r / T04B super v
-hondata stage 3b
-SFP manifold
-greddy profec b
-greddy tt
-greddy egt, boost, and fuel pressure gauges
-walbro 255lph in-tank pump
-aeromotive 1:1 fpr
-RC 550cc injectors
-35mm tial wastegate
-spearco intercooler off a drag kit
-3" carsound cat (for when i have to go to emissions)
-3" test pipe (normally on car)
-3" custom exhaust w/ magnaflow muffler
-custom 3" closed loop downpipe
-custom intercooler piping
-AEM fuel rail
-greddy type s bov
-stainless braided oil and fuel lines w/earl's fittings
-msd rpm switch for secondary intake runners
Cost was around 6000 but that is with all supporting components and the hondata. The custom piping cost a lot too. I hope people aren't scared away from FI by that number though, because I could have done it for a lot less if I wasn't so obsessive about having the best parts (for example, using autometer gauges instead of greddy, or regular lines instead of steel braided). Ultimately, my goal was reliability though so the extra cost is worth it to me.
Post your pics of your engine bay!! I'd like to check out that setup and if u can of your interior gauges and such... Thanks man!! nice setup and nice numbers.. that's what i'm looking to run. . .
p.s. Thanks for the 411... it helps me decide what i wanna do and shows the potential of an untouched engine of the H23!!
Sorry if people have already seen these pics. I have posted them other places before. In the pic of the engine bay, I now have an intake pipe that runs to behind the passenger head light. Next week sometime I am getting an aluminum heat shield made to fit around the filter. My tuner found that hot intake air was having a decent effect on hp, so right now I just have a carboard box in there as a heat shield .
Silverlude, why did you go w/ the Greddy guages? Are they honestly worth the extra hundreds you spent? What are the advantages of the very expensive guages over Autometers??

I went with greddy because I heard so many things about autometer gauges being inaccurate. I can't personally comment on it from firsthand experience, but it wasn't the kind of thing I wanted to risk. I also like the fact that the greddy gauges are full sweep, whereas the cheaper autometer ones are not. The only thing that gets kind of annoying is having to convert fuel pressure and boost from bar to psi. Otherwise, I am very happy with the greddy gauges. Oh, I have also heard that the greddy gauges react faster than the autometers.
Anybody out there w/ autometer guages??? What do you recommend?
