optima battery. does it fit in our cars?

im looking to get a new car battery. theres a lot of hesitation and i think its about time to get a new one anyway. i went to optimas website and it seems they dont have a optima red top for a prelude. but i could of sworn that i saw preludes with red top optimas in em.

which type of battery would work in my prelude or should i say fit? there has to be one that works.

and whats the deal with the yellow top?

It fits. You'll want red top. Yellow top is for commercial: http://www.optimabatteries.com/publi...ommercial.html .

I'm sure someone will chime in with what type of red top to get.

eh i picked up a redtop from sears (cause i needed one quick) but if you go to sam's its cheaper there

btw i don't remember exactly which one cause the sears guy asked which amp/volt/something like that i wanted..........i said the higher one (cause both cost the same)

but it fits, you just have to wiggle it in the battery holder thingy

the search button is your friend... but since you didn't search, i'll tell you anyways...

the 34/78 is the best option for our ludes.

They are not a direct fit, but they do fit....

I have a red top, don't recall the size, but the polarity is reversed if you put the contacts on the interior side so I put the battery in 'backwards,' trimmed the plastic cover a couple of inches and got a cheap tiedown that i trimmed up.
It is shorter than the stock battery size.

I am happy with it, I have had it for 6 months with no problems, and the warranty is much better than most batteries.

i actually did do a search, as i always do. can you provide me with a link?

edit: i think i found the prob. i did a search only in the 4th gen part. i guess 5th gens are pretty much the same thing, so i did a global search and found more relevant threads.

what do you mean by trimmed the plastic cover a few inches? what exactly did you trim? so would i be able to put in this optima battery without too much trouble and with stock parts, just a little maneuvering?

sorry, i wasn't meaning to be sarcastic or *****y... as you found out, there isn't anything in the 4th gen forum about it and that would make it look like you didn't search.

my bad about not providing a link or other info

500.2 600.4

im starting to think about that yellow top. i have 2 channel 500 watt amp for my subs (but i currently only have one sub hooked up because i didnt like the bass with two subs), and a 4 channel 600 watt amp for my speakers.

do you think i should get the yellow top? i never blast my radio or play it at really high volumes, and if i did, it would only be for like one song.

what do you guys say?

red top is good all around man......but i mean i wouldn't know personally....my friend had a big audio setup in his accord and the red top has worked for him for years

btw....the red top will fit w/o modification....you just have to put it in "backwards" or the other way......i still left my stock tie down and battery box.....you just have to stretch the wires over a bit and feed the tie down under the strap of the optima

i would. its better to be safe than sorry since i did the same thing also. i got a red top... year later i upgraded my system again and the red top just couldnt handle it. after recharging after recharging i just took it back to advanced auto parts and paid a $30 difference and got the yellow top.

Well, I didn't want to have to stretch the wires as much as they were going to need to be stretched without triming. I just used some kind of shears that were in the garage to cut the plastic box that the battery sits in. I may have taken at most 2 inches off, and since the optima battery was a little shorter than the stock battery you can't really tell that I trimmed it. The Stock battery tie down would have worked too, I just didn't like the way it fit. The bars were almost out of threads because of the difference in hieght.
I will try to get a picture.

depends on what rating your going by...and with big stereos, its not the battery you need to worry about....its more of the alternator
