opinions please, nitrous vs. turbo

I'm sure this has been tossed around before but I wanted to hear fresh ideas and opinions on whether to go turbo or nos for a vtec lude. I'm going to get one of these next month and can't come to a decision. NO2 ~$1000 installed with purge, safety valve, and warmer. Turbo Drag Gen III ~4000 after all the guages and stuff. Both put out about the same hp - new out of box turbo 5 psi, new no2 kit 50 shot = 5psi of boost. I just don't know. Is it a real pain in the arse to fill the bottle?

BOV

I do like that sound a lot. What kit do you have? The one I'm looking at is a DRAG Gen III? How much boost are you pushing, and have you had any problems? Your lude is vtec right? Thanks for the reply.

it depends on what you want. power that's always available or an occaisional boost of power every now and then. i think it's like $20 to refill a bottle. depends on how big of a bottle you get with your kit though. also, nitrous isn't a simple bolt-on once you step up from a 55/60 shot. the nitrous forum has tons of info and great people to help you out if you are going that route. the same applies for our forced induction forum. and going turbo is definetly gonna cost you more than the price of the kit & gauges.

i have a 60 shot now and hopefully will be blown by the end of the summer. I would much rather have a turbo IMO

I have turbo, and I love it.

Here is my "weird theory"...

Turbo kit- 3000~3500

Nitrous kit- 450~550
Refull- 25~30 (local shop charge $30 for refill 10lb tank )
---------------------------------------------
(3500-550)/25=118 (3500-550)/30=98.3333
(3000-450)/25=102 (3000-450)/30=85

Why buy Nirtous kit and refill 85~118 times, when you can buy a turbo kit for same price. Therefore, I chose turbo.
Plus, turbo gives you cool BOV sound.

p.s. 1. this is the real reason I chose turbo over nitrous.
2. assuming you do your own installation, so no installation cost.

well...i used to have nitrous but i just got tired of it. Its easy to refill the bottle but just a pain in the ass sometimes. I hate it when its time to race, the bottle is empty. And then you gotta worry about bottle pressure, bottle temp, etc... But dont get me wrong, I loved it when i had nitrous on my car!! Lots of fun!!! I'm actually thinking about putting it back on now.

I want to go Turbo sooon, I just want it last ya know, I just swapped in a JDM H22A and the last thing I need is for it to blow, after selling and saving like mad, ya know. So I am debating on what I should do. If I do go turbo I want to make it RELIABLE and I don't wanna worry about nothing breaking or going wrong...

Yeah thats my concearn as well, my cars driven daily n I really don't want the engine to go pop! Should I turbo my lude or buy a car that has a turbo (supra or something?), I'm a rare thing I drive an F20 (uk 2.0i) so i really don't know what stress this engine could take. I've been told that the F20s respond better to a turbo than the v-tec's, I won't have as much power but I'm told on the F20s there is much less turbo lag as I'm only waiting for 1 system to engage (turbo) as oppose to 2 systems (Vtec & Turbo).

If any1 has anymore ideas then keep em coming!

DO BOTH! Just like the MOVIES!!! hahaha lolz.. Depends... turbo costs way more than NOS, but nos is a cheap and efficient way to make your car go faster. Yes, its bad for your car, but so is turbo, if you build you car up right to take the boost, then it all depends on what you want to do and how much u want to spend.

I would pick Turbo over Nitrous. My nitrous is great and all,but filling up the bottle is lick putting your wallet on slimfast. Nitrous is just a cheaper way to give you hp instead of going all out on a turbo. Id go with the NOS kit for $$$ reasons, just dont use it all the time like i do. Race the guy w/o spraying and if he beats you, tell him your race again for $$$ There is ups and downs for it just like the turbo. Ive beaten a couple turbo cars, such as a 91 DSM and and murdered a 98 gs-t spraying. So pick your weapon, they both work well

I would go turbo if you can fund it. I wish I could. I might get NOS so a can lower my track times some more.

thanks guys...

Seems most lean more towards a turbo, but there is also another consideration. Most turbo kits I see are ugly. They look rusty brown and somewhat thrown together. I'm into clean looks with speed so maybe the bottle is more for me. What if I slapped a set of more aggressive cams in there built the bottom end and ignition like mad and did a 100 shot. maybe I should just sell this car and get a Grand National. Those things are not much to look at but nice and for 13,500 I can be turning 12 sec ET's and with slight mods I can turn high 10's. But then it isn't a lude. JEEZ, what did I get myself into with wanting to go faster???
