I'm in the process of rebuilding my 93 Vtec lude. It has 180k miles on it and I've neglected it for the last 25k. While at NPM, my boyfriend slaved over my car and pulled the engine and tore it down. Here are the initial pictures:
Pre-Surgery
Exhaust valves have some serious barnacles
I didn't need that CV boot or anything... god damn my wheel is nasty! (Okay so everything under the hood is nasty!)
Prelude...1 Motor Mount...0 This motor mount looks a little beat.
I need new tie rods while we're at it.
It's in....It's out!
Ack, balance shaft belt is TOTALLY shredded. I knew there was a reason I hadn't driven the prelude in a few months.
Hrmn, shouldn't that key be whole?
I have many more pics... as soon as Marty gives them to me. :-) We are still debating a few parts that we are going to be using, but I am planning on making the NE BBQ with the new engine build and pre-body work.
Well it is still up in the air on the specifics, but I should have those in the next couple of days. As of the "past five minutes" it includes all new performance enhanced internals. *big grin* Pistons with 11.5:1 compression, new rods, head work, euro accord type R intake manifold, cams and more.... (I've consumed too many margaritas tonight to finish the list. :P)
The engine compartment is so filthy. I guess after 13 years, you would be too. Tonight, I'm setting out with a power washer and a gallon (or two) of simple green. Mmm.... sure hope I love that sassafras smell.
The block looks absolutely brand spanking new after being in the hot tank. The head looks tremendously better, but still has some carbon build up, nothing a trip to the machinist won't get rid of. The gearbox is absolutely black and covered in all sorts of grime. I can't wait to put that in the hot tank and see how well it cleans up. We've decided that if it can be put in the hot tank, we're not cleaning it by hand... we just can't get it that clean.
The valves that came out of the head... wow. I can't believe how barnacled they were. For having 180k on the engine, I think everything looked spectacular minus that whole balance shaft belt issue.
In less than a month, I'll be revving to 9k. w00t! Pics of the before/after of the clean parts tonight/tomorrow morning.
Time for an update. We've been moving a little bit slower than anticipated. Marty had a couple of races and an unexpected test session, so we're a slightly behind the target. We may still make it.
I spent the evening cleaning ONE wheel well. I always thought it was textured... Hrmn, guess not. Two cans of brake clean later, it's spotless. Talk about weight reduction, I digress.
The UPS man brought me a bundle of joy last week:
Yummy.
I ordered my pistons and rods today and I'm ordering the valvetrain tomorrow. So excited.
