With a refund from the state for taxes, the guvmint fo taxes, and the school for overpaying tuition, I find myself in a unique position to buy my next mod----an exhaust for the 96si. I have to take a few things into account, however.
It needs to be 50 state legal first off
It needs to be as quiet as possible
The tailpipe would ideally be as small as possible
In short, I want stealthy. I would appreciate you guys' opinions on this. Any experience or opinion is helpful.

I did not know that it was illegal to change your exhaust in California. My confusion arose because certain companies advertise as being 50 state legal and others don't. I know that headers need a CARB sticker. I have had my eyes on the rsr for a while, and now the decision is made. Thank you, I had asked that question before and reeived several, non-straight answers.

It is LEGAL to change out your exhaust, it is not LEGAL to have an exhaust that is louder then 95 db. I will hold to the fact that an exhaust does nothing to SMOG, after the cat, it just exit throught teh exhaust and the gases arent' change.
there is a new law out there that says if you get an exhaust ticket, you can't change back to stock, you have to go to the state ref to get it sound tested, best thing to do, unless you got a loud exhaust, go take the test and pass like me. my exhaust has and always will be 50 STATE STREET legal. Greddy EVO on my 95 SI. come out to be 85db. so if you want a quiet but bassie exhaust, greddy is your man. i set off all the alarm. it also has a big tip so that prob not wat you want. Good exhaust to your recomendation. Rs*R, Apexi world sport.

Jspec81: If you do a scene with Mika, I'll give you $500 and I'm sure others would chip to that pot.
the tip on RSR is probably 4" at least I would think, but its the quietest exhaust out there .. the ExMag is all black resonator with just a chrome tip so it wont be all bling bling, just looks like a soup can on the end (yes, that is what honda calls the chrome tip from the factory for the civic) I think rsx have the same type so it should look ok .. get a rear lip from an accord and it'll camoflauge it a bit.
thermal stealth catback was the best i had heard. i have since annihilated it, removing the resonator and took out my cat. gained hp on the dyno, but its loud and not gonna pass any emissions tests. yay for oklahoma

RS*R for the "stealthy" tone/look/performance. Everyone agrees so far. Not much of a discussion now. haha
However, I'm surprised with the new laws in Cali. I didn't know. Last thing I remembered was that "modified" exhaust systems were only deemed illegal if they hit over 95 decibel. Noise pollution they say. Is it me, but don't some motorcycles hit WAAAAY above that. Ok..that was offtopic, but yeah after you get the ticket...it's not a FIX IT ticket. You have to pay and basically tone the exhaust down or get a stock one. I never knew you couldn't change back to stock. That sucks. Oh wells.
I have an Espelir JGT500 cat-back on the lude and I'm thinking RSR was well. We'll see. I wouldn't know who to sell the Espelir exhaust to though. It's LOUD. :-(
i bought an HKS sport cat back when my exhaust fell off. It is very quiet at adle and low speeds, but when you get into it you can definitely tell the difference. The outlet is not big at all, and they only make it for the Si. I have a VTEC now running that same exhaust, but i am wondering if it is more restrictive than, say an exhaust made for VTEC? any input fella's???

I would recomend Apex WS (which I have but the tip is 3") or the dual tip Thermal... nice deep tone. The Apex WS isn't loud ... but it sounds like a has a pair, once you slame your foot on the gas pedal.
