i have the pink syndrome too, but it looks like yours is just a bad picture... theonly pink things on my car are the spoiler, the license plate frame, side mirrors, and the bumpers... Pretty much anything that isnt metal is pink, but its all getting painted in the spring.

Sorry guys.. If you don't know RED is the worst colour for oxidization from the sun.. It's just something that we all have to deal with (well not me)

You guys going to repaint red again?? Or venture to the darksidE?

waxing these plastic parts can contribute to the lightening of color, so I've heard.

Where did you hear this? I notice that when I constantly wax my plastic pieces, they stay the same color. But if I don't wax in like 3 months, they seem a little lighter. Isn't the point of waxing to protect from the "elements"?

I've been told the same thing. You especially don't want to wax the mirrors. They fade very quickly and the only way to bring them back is a repaint.

I made that fatal mistake, and yuck. I can't wait to paint it.

The previous owner waxed my mirrors in hopes of bringing them back to life but he didn't realize that he was doing more damage.

I was so happy when I had them sprayed this summer. I was going to have them do my spoiler too, but surprisingly, it is still very red along with the rear license plate holder.

Really? Can you somehow explain it to me? It doesn't seem to make any logical sense. I wax all plastic pieces, so far, I think it's preventing my car from turning anymore pink. Is there a link or something that'll explain why waxing it would cause more fade?

There's no information on the web that I know of, but my body shop said that is the reason for fading. First off, any color red has a pigment which attracts much more of the damaging UV rays from the sun. For this reason, red cars always seem to turn "pink" in color. I've seen many older toyota celicas turn pink even newer BMW's. If you own a red car it is important to use a ploish on the car at least twice a year. The polish replaces the oils that are lost while the car sits in the damaging sun light. Since red attracts more light, this step is very important in order to ensure a decent looking finish on a red car. That's one strike against us.

As for the plastic materials, for some reason they are prone to fade much quicker than metal panels that are painted red. Have no idea but I've had two red 4th gens and noticed it in both. The bumpers, spoiler, door handles, rear license plate holder and mirrors faded while the rest of the car was still in decent shape. This isn't something that is just limited to Preludes, My brother noticed his spolier, mirrors, and door handles faded drastically while the rest of his car remained in decent shape. He fixed all this with a respray.

As far as I know the mirrors fade the quickest and the reason for this is that the side mirrors are actually colored plastic and are not painted. The wax fades the plastic becuase wax is not meant to be put on a plastic surface. Over the last few years Honda started painting their side mirrors so this is not an issue anymore.

I had my mirrors, and bumper resprayed so I wax away and they shine like never before.

Sorry I don't have any concrete evidence, but I'm going by what my body shop explained and personal experience.

So when i get my car all pearlin this spring ill be able to wax the parts like the mirrors if they paint them? dont know if anyone wants to know but im gonna share this info:

--From the bodyshop--
Painted Mirrors: $50
fixed "honda" rust and paint rear quarters: $150/each
rear bumper painted: $150

Just wondering if the prices you got were basically the same or better or worse.

After the mirrors are painted you can wax them as much as you want.

Sorry I don't have the breakdown for what I paid for the work. I paid a total of $3000 which included stripping and repainting the hood, prepping my body kit, repainting the body kit, repainting front fenders, repainting doors, repainting mirrors, dent removal, shaving the badges of my side skirts, and installing my JDM's.

Your prices sound very reasonable. On my previous Prelude I had the rust on my rear drivers side quarter panel taken care of and that cost me $400 for just one panel. They cut out the metal which contained the rust then fabricated a new piece of metal and welded it into place, then primered it and repainted the panel. They also blended the paint into the door so a color difference wasn't noticable. This is the only way to fix the rust area, if they are simply going to fill the hole with body filler, it could crack or flake off in time. It's worth the extra money if you are planning on keeping your car for a while.
