Ok someone told me they switched to synthetic and the engine runs a lot stronger. i have always used 10w30. I just recently swapped in the h22 and im thinkin about starting to use synthetic oil. What should i use??? please help
I wouldnt recommend using synthetic if your engine has over 75k on it. The synthetic will leak, and you will end up having to replace gaskets. I use Catrol GTX 10w30, and it treats me just fine.
If the engine you swapped in has relatively low miles, then go for it. You might gain a slight bit from it.

If you have high mileage I would suggest using a synthetic blend or the Valvoline Max life for high mileage motors. Synthetic is the way to go though.

Ask your local Honda Dealer for the best clear cut answer.....assuming that they aren't a bunch of complete idiots. If they do not know because your motor is JDM, email the place you bought the engine from. They might know. If not, copy what others have done and make sure they have been running that type of oil for an extended period of time.

That's what I've used since I got my car because I know the previous owner used regular dino oil.
I've been using 10W 30 synthetic blend for over three years with no problems.

There ya go. I would still double check with the dealer or engine distributor and see what they say. You can never be too carefull when choosing such a vital product for your engine
If you just swapped in a JDM H22, I'd suggest the following schedule if you want to make positive it's clean since JDM motors have been sitting a while and are very dirty (yes, even if it's clean on the outside)
regular dino oil - 500 miles
switch out for some more dino oil - 1000 miles
switch out for full synthetic
That way you'll flush out all the old crap and get it nice and clean in there and ready for full synthetic.
ya.. when i first had the swap.. we filled w/ regular valvoline 10w30 (which honda dealors use) ran it a few minutes.. drained.. re-filled again. 500-750 miles later changed again. now @ 3k i just did another oil change. and at another 3k im going to swith to a synthetic blend.
If there is a dealer around you that sells Amsoil I HIGHLY reccommend it. Use 10w30. It's like $5.89 per quart... but well worth it. You don't have to change it as often either... they claim 15,000 miles (I'm anal about it though and change it every 4k-5k) In viscosity tests it beat out all other brands of sythetic. Mobil 1 was second. Either way... synthetic is the way to go.
i am about to go change my oil right now...winter is coming up so should i use a different grade oil? i am planning on getting 10w 30 synthetic...is this good for the winter?
I personally have been using 10W40 Castrol Synthetic on my 240K + 94 VTEC Prelude and 90 Integra LS... no leaks or any problems. It also seems to keep the engine pretti quiet on idle.

I think full synthetic is frankly a waste of money. Use the correct weight oil and change the filter and oil when you are supposed to and you car will be fine.
