oil question...

I change the oil in my 1994 vtec when i 1st got it late may (I've prolly put about 3-4k on it since then -my odom. doesnt work so i can't tell for sure). Well i was driving last night and i realized that vtec wasnt engaging in every gear everytime. It never would in 1st and then only sometimes in the other gears. I got home let the car sit for 5 min or so and then checked the oil. I had maybe a drop on the dip stick after i wiped it down, put it back in and pulled it out. this morning i put a qt. in to get around for a day or so. #1 would the low oil be why vtec wasn't engaging (i dont want to push it right now to test it again) #2 why would i be so low on oil so fast?

preludes eat oil. i'd say it's common to lose a quart or 2 over 3-4k miles, especially if you're driving it hard. if the dipstick is all the way down it only means you're down a quart or so, if i remember right. it doesn't mean you're almost out of oil. i also think being low on oil could cause the ecu to not engage vtec.

Vtec didn't engage strictly from the loss of oil. Vtec runs off of an oil pressure system, if there's no oil, there's no pressure, ie- no Vtec. Always check up regularly on your oil for how much you have left, and what color it is. 4k is a little high in mileage to have left it alone. Check it every 1000 at least, to add a little.. and change it every 3k. Unfortunately, it's very very very common for our ludes to burn oil, but what's an extra qt of oil every 3k compared to owning a super sexy car?

thank you very much, I got my oil changed today and I'm going to go to the store and stock up on Qts or oil and I'll be checking on my oil prolly 2-3 times a week in the mornings. I had a 94 Accord show car before my lude, so I wasn't used to the "high performance". I knew they burned oil but not 2-3 wts in 3-4k. ::shrugs::

thanx
