oil pressure putting mind at rest

ok, I wana out my mind at rest as regards to oil pressure in my h22a. I fully rebuilt the engine inc all bearings some 2 years ago and the engine has been fine using 10w -40 semi . My mate rebuilt his motor stock about 2 months ago with the same setup as mine and I notice a difference in the oil pressure on his motor. pics at www.rover600.co.uk

Okay as my set up go I got a electo autometer guage oil presure guage tapped off the head and it reads the following

when cold 60-75 psi on start up.

when warm it reads the following

10 psi on tick over 750 rpm

55 psi at 3300 rpm

75 psi when reallying gunning it and I seea slight pressure drop when in vtec

ok my mates is now the following using the same guage tapped off at the head

when warm it reads the following

30 psi on tick over 750 rpm

70 psi at 3300 rpm

nearly a hundred psi when gunning it and a slight pressure drop when in vtec.

I used a oil pressure tester on both engines and the reading were right so no suspected faulty sender.

Manual reads that 8- 10 psi is right at tick over and 50 psi at 3300 is good but going thru the forums the oil pressure varies quite significantly between each motor. Should I be concerned at my oil pressure or am I worring for nothing.

Also would I be better off putting the oil sender guage on the back of the block instead of on the head as I always suspected that it would give me a better reading nearer the oil pump, and am I correct in that the hotter the oil gets the thinner it gets thus you will get a slight pressure drop.

some one please put my mind at rest please.

Actually the oil gets thicker as it gets hotter. 10W-40 means 10 weight when cold (I believe the W means winter?) and 40 weight when hot. This allows thinner oil to circulate around the engine on startup and in cold climates.

Also, it looks like (from the numbers you quoted) your readings are consistent with the manual's numbers.

so what we are saying then is that my readings would be correct and that my mates may be questionable. if that is the case and ideas? I am thinking stuck releif valve poss.

thanks
