oil pressure light flashing

has anyone seen this before?

I went to a local autocross yesterday and drove the car hard while I was there. I let it cool down for a while and on my way home while the car was idling at a stop sign, the oil light was barely coming on; it was very dim and as soon as I would rev it up a bit it would go away.

Later on, I was stuck at a light waiting for about 1 1/2 minutes and then the oil presure light started blinking. At this point I pulled over, allowed the engine to cool down for about 5 minutes and checked the oil level, but it was fine... It actually had a bit too much (right above the second dot.). I cranked the engine and removed the oil cap and I could see oil being sprayed over the cams so I got back on the road and as long as I kept it above idle speed it was fine. I haven't felt a loss of power or anything like that, but I'm still worried something major may be ahead.

HELP !!

thanks,

Worth asking is was your oil level just above the second dot last time you checked it, and since then have you added oil? I suppose it's possible that there's a lack of pressure or rather no circulation somewhere, maybe a failing oil pump Maybe someone else has had this problem.

yes I did.. I checked the oil level before the event, and then I checked it when I started having the problem.

I changed the oil today and replaced my filter, Also replaced spark plugs just for kicks and it seemed to be ok after I took it for a couple of trips around the block. I will just have to drive it for a while and see what happens.

thanks,

once that light starts blinking.... its indicating that the motor is low on oil.... really low on oil... had that happen to me..

weird though.... the light came on for you and you still had a good amount of oil on the motor...

That's what I'm thinking too. I've driven the car for about 40 miles since I changed my oil and I have not had any issues.

Someone suggested that I switch from Mobil1 synthetic oil to Royal purple... I guess I will be doing my research on this as I have never tried it before.

oil thinkness wont make the light go on, its just a suggestion but your sure you put the right filter on? and that theres no cap on the filter? i would check for a loose wire to the sender first, then see if you have a friend or mechanic that can test oil pressure with a gauge from the same port that the sender plugs into. if he gets a reading there its a bad sender, if he dosent get a reading your pump is proablly going
