Oil pan gasket

OK...I bought a new oil pan gasket(made of rubber) and I dont have a manual. Someone told me I need silicone sealant but isnt that the point of rubber? I know with transmission gaskets you dont use any. I know itrs probably common sense but I like to be sure. Oh and what are the torque setting for the pan, I know on d16's its like over a 100ft.lbs that seems like alot.

What he said, no sealant. But it does not hurt to use. most techs will throw some on, but its not needed..

As for the torque specs, they are tightened to 9 lb-ft.
