Oil in intake?

Does anyone else in here get alot of blowback into their intake? I just put on a new CAI and I noticed a sh!tlo@d of oil in it today! I just wonder how much of it is actaully running through the TB and into the engine and what is causing it? Rings maybe? Let me know if this is normal. Thanks. Later.

Keith

When I took off my CAI a few weeks ago, there was a little bit of oil sitting in the little dip around the end of the intake closest to the throttle body. I'm not sure how common this is, but it was the first time noticed it.

it comes from the EGR hose in the the valve cover to the intake.. everyone's does it unfortunately. I with there were a way to 'block' the oil and still have the hose connected so air could get through It makes the inside of the IM sooo dirty, it's horrible.

I thought that was the purpose of a catch Can? Adding it would stop the excessive oil correct?

wow... kinda funny how I took my intake off today for the first time 6 months to clean up...

... I noticed the TB end of the intake was pretty damn oily, I would say a good couple teaspoons of oil sitting there, but this is normal as almost every car does this

Blowby gasses/oil are filtered out of you crankcase via the pcv system and plumbed back into the intake manifold. The line from the intake to your valve cover has the function of replacing the air drawn out of the crankcase when vacuum in the IM causes the crankcase to be de-pressurized. When there is little vacuum in the manifold or the pcv valve is not functioning correctly/optimally, the blowby gasses will look to find alternative routes...hence oil in your intake. A catch can functions as storage for the oil instead of plumbing it into the IM where it can potentially foul up the intake charge.

Replace your pcv valve if you havent in the last 10k miles or so.

Still looking for one, I saw here a nice Moroso setup that would be ideal.

I have seen some on Ebay, but still looking

maybe someone else has a link for ordering one, I personally want it on my car before I attempt any boost

It's normal, but if it really bothers you, a catch can is the way to go IMO.

You could get a crank case breather filter, but you'd have to replace the thing all the time though, cause it will get oily very fast!
