so while washing cars and wetting each other with the hose, screaming like schoolgirls today we discovered that Tannie's car will not start. He asked me to post this up because he's at work right now.
here's the deal:
it's a 96 vtec (OBD2) with the switch in there for the ecu workaround i'm guessing, i dunno too much about that though cause have OBD1. apparently the wrong wire was cut for the procedure and hooked up to the switch. His car would not start up until we jumped it. i took off the negative terminal on accident when removing the jumper cable and the car shut off. that led me to believe somethin was wrong with his alternator. then his tach stopped working and all the dash lights began to screw up (dim or turn off) when he'd step on the brake or turn the headlights on. so then i dont' think that's just the alternator but the ecu as well. is the ecu in any way tied into the alternator charge system? the workaround should be undone or fixed on friday but if anyone else has some suggestions please post. thanks.
what wires were cut? What were the pin outs on the ECU. Are there any cel's right now? A little more info is needed. Also sounds like there might be a bad connection because of how the dash lights are changing.
I went outside to try and start it again and all it did was click really fast. Here's the thread about the problem before all this other **** happened: CEL 41, 65, and SRS light
I'm going to get my battery tested when I get back from San Antonio Wednesday.

You guys know that our cars aren't supposed to run when dissconnected from a battery right? You can't do this with newer cars guys... a lot of the systems/computers in the car run off the battery. This is an old american car test, not an import test.

I wish. My mom said this is the only car part she'll ever buy me and O'Reilly had no Optimas. I got a Super Start with a 3-year warantee, with free exchange. I'm just happy my terminals reached, they barely reached but are on good without any stress on the wires.
