OEM CD Changer Question

I've been following the recent threads about OEM CD changers, and it got me excited about taking my car back to the stock look. Anyway I found a good deal on ebay for a NOS changer still in its original packaging, complete with manual and everything.

My question is this, I have the sales brochure for my 96, and it shows the CD changer as being controlled through the stock head unit itself, without the changer control. Then I looked at Accessories Installation Instructions and it does not list the changer as being necessary.

Do you need the changer control unit, or will the changer hook directly into the OEM head unit? I guess I am looking for an excuse to buy the CD changer control that preludatic and red92si installed.

Also, does anyone know where you could find the trunk mounting bracket?

Thank you.

The unit plugs directly into the stock radio, and then the cd changer itself plugs into the cd changer controller. I dont think the PRELUDE accessories book listed this part, but it was available for 92-95 Civic, 92-96 Prelude, and 93-96 Accord, since all of those radios were (for the most part) interchangable. You will need the cd changer itself for the changer controller to function correctly. Without it, the cd changer controler reads "EEEEE" until a unit is plugged in, and no radio code is neccesary for the changer controller. Hope this helps

The controller that has been pictured is shown in the JDM 4th Gen. Optional Equipment Catalog. There it is listed as a Gather's unit.

Here's a pic from the Catalog.

Thanks for all the information guys. That image from the JDM accessories catalog is awesome.

Just for my clarification, I do not need the changer controller for the changer to work, (CD changer hooked directly into stock head unity). If I wanted to, however, I could hook the changer into the changer controller, and then connect the changer controller into the stock head unit?

I am currently going through my seemingly annual summer Prelude love fest, and have been in the mood to buy as many needless JDM and OEM parts as I can find...so that changer controller would be right up my alley.

Thank you for all the help, it is appreciated.

fyi....

I am looking for the changer itself - nm, found it all on ebay. Hopefully it all works when it gets here. I could have bought a new CD player for this much....but this will have more of the cool factor

as always, if it gets here and I decide not to do it....I will list it for sale here

The one you bought, I have been watching on eBay for months. Was going back and forth on whether to buy it or not so I could have a backup. Glad it went to a PO member.

PS (OT). jsmooney... are you a Bama or Auburn fan?

Thanks I hope it works! I just happened to stumble across the stuff while looking and spent too much money it will be fun?

I am a Bama fan - Roll Tide Roll (even though we got some wins taken away)

I went to the University of Alabama, played in the marching band, met my wife there, and got the job I have now because of the school.

At least you got the Changer Controller for under $40.

OT: Pretty much my whole family went to Alabama. My sister is there right now. I flew out for the Alabama/Auburn game last Thanksgiving. Fun times.

Oh man, I've had my eye on that for the last couple of weeks. Oh well, I probably shouldn't be spending my money on that right now. I'm glad someone bought it who will appreciate it.

I did find a changer that I bought a couple weeks ago, that was new in its original box. Doing a quick scan of ebay it looks like the same seller that I bought mine from has another one up there. You might want to check it out. I made what I thought was a fair offer and got it. Hopefully it should work since it's still in it's original packaging.

I shouldn't be spending the money!

I wasn't sure if anyone was watching it. I like the way it looked from the pictures I've seen and would like to keep it stock, so...yeah. The radio portion looks bad, but my radio should work.

I found a new in box changer attachment for a good price. The guy had two, so there is one left if anyone wants it.

he also might have the attachment for 92 Ludes with the sex blocker console. It is installed inside the armrest.

The one you showed is for 93-96 ludes, but you can also use it for 92.

I love the little variations that Honda has in everything!

Me too. While I would never trade my console for a 92, it definitely would be nice to have the changer located in the car and not in the trunk.

1992 prelude SI, CD-CHANGER not functioning

just bought a JDM 1992 prelude SI RHD, and when i checked it out the owner said that the 6-disc(factory option i guess) is not working because the guy that imported it from japan replaced the stereo with an aftermarket one and must have not bothered to connect it to the changer, or properly install. the stereo and everything else works(with a little bass interuption on some settings) works its just the cd-changer is not functioning.

HELP on how to fix/remedy/replace this?

Does the aftermarket head unit have a round 8-pin connector on the back? Does it have the ability to control a cd changer? If so, then connect up the cable (should be running from the rear center console or trunk to the front center console behind the stereo) and try it out.
