Picked this up awhile back and now that my stock cd player quit reading discs I decided to go ahead and install the cd changer controller. Now I just need to get an Alpine or Honda changer and I'm set.
I like it since it matches the car and matches when it all lights up. Plus, you've got to love the oem blackout mode by pulling the balance knob out an extra click
And its also a lot less likely to get stolen. I used to have an aftermarket head unit and system, but that got stolen one day four years or so ago, and I just put the stock stereo back in and never looked back.
Correct. It is just the controller for the cd changer. I have the OEM CD Changer kit for the '92 that mounts the changer in the center console in between the rear seats. There is an M-Bus input cable that is on the rear that hooks into the long cable from the CD Changer. With a Honda Changer it is a straight hook up, and with an Alpine you just have to get an adapter that switches two of the pins in the connector.
wow thats awesome! I had the center console in my last lude. Glad not to have that huge thing anymore, but if it had a cd changer it would be worth it. Sick location.
sound quality is excellent. the stock Honda receiver is made by Alpine.

I've never had a problem with the sound quality. The stereo is made by Alpine, as mentioned, and so is this Changer Controller. Sometimes the tape player runs at a slightly lower volume than radio or cd's, but I just add another decibel to the recording level on my mix tapes to solve that issue. I'm sure that could be solved by buying a cassette player head cleaner kit.
Now thats what I am talking about. It always bugs me how stereo upgrades scream aftermarket.
Every person who gets in my car and knows how I like to tinker tells me to change my dash gauges to red. I always think I should do it, then decide a more orange/amber would be best... and then I decide to LEAVE IT THE WAY IT IS. I feel like every car now has red interior lights... and that interior lighting colors come in trends. Even another friend with a pontiac sunfire has amber gauges.
But yeah, looking real good keeping it OEM. I've got one of the first JVC Kameleons in mine. It matches the dash... blacked out when powered off, and no apparent knobs or buttons. The blue/green matches during the day, but the display is in multiple colors. Its more obvious its aftermarket at night.
You many have just convinced me to use my old oem stereo. All I would need is an ipod adapter for an alpine?
I got an alpine 6 cd changer. It's been sitting in my trunk for the last year ever since I got my IPOD interface. Interested?

If you push the 'Balance/Fader' knob to pop it out for adjustment and then pull gently on the small knob it will click and turn the illumination off on your stereo when the headlights are on. It leaves the radio station and cd track time lit.
